Our Volleyball boys team went against KE7 Hall on the 23rd of January 2020. It was the guys’ first ever IHG game this season but there was not a hint of nerves or anxiety in their faces! They confidently walked on court and started their warm-ups before the KE7 players. As the supporters donned in yellow started streaming in, and as the net gets set up, the players were soon on court preparing for the match to begin!
First Set: 25-13 to Eusoff
Players York Tat, Irfan, Lok Heng, Zhao Xiang, Tzi Wah and Pei Jie confidently strutted on court for the first match. With the ball in hand, Pei Jie waited to serve. The referee blew the whistle and Pei Jie serves! With a few service aces by the undefeatable Pei Jie, and a few spikes by the incredible Lok Heng, Eusoff led by a wide margin of 9-0. Zhao Xiang spiked a quick set to win the 10th point for Eusoff, and our Freshie Series Superstar York Tat LEAPT into the air to make a spike, pulling our score to 11-2. Despite a few hiccups through the game, the team never lost their cool and continuously cheered on one another. Their immense focus and drive brought them to a win as Pei Jie and Lok Heng BLOCKED the ball, winning our final point.

Second Set: 25-12 to Eusoff
The second set started off strong with LYLC Tzi Wah making a service ace, catching the KE7 players off guard. Standing at an impressive height of 3.12 metres, IVP and SEA Games beach volleyball player Mark Shen won his first point for the team with a strong spike (we all felt tremors). As the score difference between Eusoff and KE7 drew closer (6-4 to Eusoff), Zhe Wei dived and fell to the ground whilst trying to save the ball but York Tat unfortunately spiked the ball into the net. York Tat then proceeded to use a piece of cloth for the wiping of volleyballs, to wipe Zhe Wei’s sweat off the ground! The game rose in tension as the score tied at 6-6, but our players were unfazed as Kaw Chun swiftly made a perfect drop, even after KE7 miraculously saved the ball. In the second half of the game, Kaw Chun and Zhe Wei formed up at the front of the net and successfully BLOCKED the opponent’s spike attempt, bringing the score to 18-7. Eusoff bagged the second set with a score of 25-12 as massive Mark Shen finished the game with a spike (a few feet mid-air)!

Third Set: 25-12 to Eusoff
The third set started with a tie of 2-2. But with a quick save from JJ and a few spikes from our talented players, Eusoff led with a score of 7-2. In the middle of the game, there was a slight disagreement on both sides of the team and crowd on whether Freshie Series Superstar York Tat’s spike was out. The referee awarded the point to KE7 and the score-keepers were overheard saying, with immense faith in Eusoff, “Never mind, they don’t even need that point!” The match point to Eusoff was won when a KE7 player unfortunately hit the ball into the net. Eusoff finished strong with a score of 25-12.
A fun little moment as Huanzhang makes his volleyball debut.
