Serve. Dig, Set, Spike. Block. Our Eusoff Volleyball (M) Team finished their last Preliminary match, against King Edward Hall last evening. With a beautiful 3-0 win over KE7, our boys are through to SEMIS. The road from here on is only going to get tougher but let’s recap some highlights from their last game!

Final Results:

EH 3 - 0 KE

Set 1: 25-15 to EH

Set 2: 25-21 to EH

Set 3: 25-17 to EH

The starting lineup for the first set saw Captain Xinlong, Vice-Captain Pin An, Jireh, Daryl, Alvin, Sihern and Schuyler (Libero) on court. KE7 was up first to serve. But Xinlong quickly ended it with a clean spike and secured the first point of the game for Eusoff. The second point saw yet again the telepathic connection - a neat set by Jireh, a quick finish by Alvin. Deja Vu from the last match against Raffles Hall, but even in this match, their zero tempo plays were not an uncommon sight either. With that, 2-0 to EH. Many more points were secured from solid blocks by Daryl, spikes by Jireh, tip by Sihern, insane spikes by Pin An and of course more VJ action from Jireh and Sihern duo. However, tiny errors allowed KE7 to slowly inch towards a closer scoreline. 10-3 to EH. 10-7 to EH. 12-8 to EH. Pin An fired away his thunderous spikes and a service ace, to a 15-9 to EH. Jireh also catches KE7 by surprise with dump, 16-11 to EH. A service ace from Sihern, then a block by Jireh, brings it to a 18-11 to EH. Freshie Zhi Yuan subs in. A powerful spike by Xinlong, point. A dive by Pin An saves the ball, a back set by Jireh, KE7 blocks but it goes out, point. Beautiful spike by Daryl, point. A strong ball from Eusoff sends a KE7 player sliding across the court, straight into the referees and the scoreboard, trying to save the ball. But efforts were futile and another point to Eusoff, 23-12 to EH. After a good block by Daryl and Zhi Yuan, Jireh dumps the ball, 24-12 to EH. The match point for EH didn’t come easy as KE7 retaliated with spikes into gaps, spiking at the blocks - making the ball go out after, as well as blocking spikes from Eusoff. But match point was secured with a service by KE7 going out. Good judgement by the players. First Set: 25-15 to EH.

Second set lineup saw Xinlong, Zhi Yuan, Zu Le, Ethan, Alvin, Khan and Brandon (Libero). The second set was a closer set as KE7 gave the boys a run for their money. Starting with amazing receives by Brandon, nice spike by Zu Le, Khan directing the block - Zu Le and Zhi Yuan shuts the ball out, 3-1 to EH. But a couple of missed connections left the ball hitting the court on our side, allowing KE7 to equalise with us, 3-3. Khan’s insane spike went through KE7’s block like a grass cutter mowing a lawn, 6-5 to EH. But that’s not all from Khan, he tips, he service ace, 8-5 to EH. Seems like the team feels abit jittery this set as Brandon calls for the team to relax and to not rush. Despite good spikes, tips and blocks, KE7 manages to find the gaps, equalising at 10-10 again. The equaliser continues to 18-18, with good efforts by the team - surprise spike by Zhi Yuan, Khan’s quick save of a dangerous ball, good service by Zhi Yuan, Xinlong’s spike that just brushes the net, saves by Brandon, save by Jireh, good block by Kevyn. At 18-19 to KE7, brandon almost does a split while saving a ball. A timeout was called to regroup as we were0.6 down 18-21 to KE7. But nothing of worry as Xinlong and Jireh posed for a picture together before the play resumed! Service ace by Xinlong tricked KE7 into thinking it was out as it was right at the edge. Solid block by Zu Le and Kevyn, 21-21 equaliser! Good save by Brandon and a powerful spike by KHan seals 23-21 to EH. Match point was also secured by block from Jireh. Second Set: 25-21 to EH. A close and intense second set!

Prior to the third set, Jireh gave a couple of thumbs up, reassuring a good end to the day’s match! Starting the third set’s lineup was Xinlong, Alvin, Daryl, Pin An, Sihern, Jireh and Schuyler (Libero). A smooth start with constant spikes led to a 6-2 to EH. But KE7 ramped up their game, bringing the scoreline to a close 12-11 to EH. Thunderous spikes were served by Xinlong, Pin An and strong blocks by Sihern - Daryl and Pin An - Sihern pairs, brought Eusoff to 18-14 to EH. A haikyuu zero tempo by the VJ boys Jireh and Sihern clinch another point, 19-14 to EH. Captain Xinlong also spikes into the tips of the KE7 player’s hands, sending the ball out and a point in, 21-16 to EH. Alvin’s quick reflex at the spur of the moment saves a dangerous ball while catching KE7 off-guard for a 23-16 to EH. Last two points for Eusoff were gifted by KE7’s double service into net. Ending the last set with 25-17 to EH.
