Final Score: 6 – 1 to Eusoff
It was the opening match for the boys, and they were a little nervous at the start of each set, having some of the first game jitters. However, they quickly warmed themselves up and got back into the game!
For the first line, we have our favourite captains, Ryan Mula, Chao Zhou (youth team player), Jared and Kevyn as the sub! The game started off with Eusoff in the lead and Raffles closely behind us. As we tried to widen the gap, the referee and scorekeeper suddenly felt that it was a good time to stop us in the middle of our set to tell us that our service rotation was faulty. The conversation went back and forth between them, Peijie and the boys for a while, until Raffles eventually got the point, though we’re pretty sure that our rotation was correct (but arguing with the referee will never end up well so bopez…) However, this small intervention tripped the boys up a little, as they made mistakes like serving into the net or spiking too late, as Raffles overtook us and got a lead above us! Eventually, with sheer determination and many dives and saves by Mr Youth Team, we managed to save our points and ended the set at 15-13. Clearly the boys had woken up from this, as they barged into the next set strong and finished it even stronger, with many intense rallies in between. Sick spikes from the vice captain and blocks from the captain quickly brought our scores up to a 13-5, when Kevyn subbed for Jared and the set quickly ended at 15-5 in our favour. What a beast lads!
Mr Youth Team's spikes were simply so good that people in the livestream were asking "whos #44"
The next line is my boss Khan with his ball tricks, Chernanigans and the tallest star freshie, Pin An, with Jethro as the sub. Like the first set, our boys had first game jitters and took some time to warm up, as we tied with Raffles at some point in the game. Then, Raffles suddenly took the lead at 13-14, but our boys did not panic at the match point as a monster block from Pin An got us back on our feet at 15-14. Raffles was no pushover as they fought to tie with us, but they could not measure up to our experienced team and the set ended with 17-15. The next set was a pretty rough one as well, as both sides gave free points due to mistakes made, but we edged over Raffles with our monster blocks, spidey senses and speedy responses to gain 15-13.
nothing but focus from our lovely <3 smc head and monster blocker x spiker
The next line, we have Zhao Xiang, Xinlong, the most famous freshie N**** K** on eh_confessions, Mr Nicky and Max (sub). It’s the freshies’ first volleyball IHG game and they must be very nervous, as their communications were a little messy and lacking. However, the fresh energy from the boys brought us to a 12-6, where Max subbed in for Nicky, and even Kevyn quoted that it’s a strangely unstable set. (or maybe the boys are just very considerate and gave chance), but we still managed to crush it and ended the set with a 15-9. For the next set, the boys were still in a muddled head space for a while, as they tied with Raffles and the gap between the two halls could not be widened at all. Both sides made their own mistakes of serving the ball out, yet Raffles got slightly luckier and won us at 14-16. In the next set, the game progressed smoothly with well-planned tips and spikes from Xinlong, until Raffles suddenly decided to hit our precious volleyball team manager, Andrea and caused the points to be at 14-7. With the spirit of the team being attacked, the boys fumbled with the ball and caused Raffles to gain a few points, before they finally secured the win and thus the game for Eusoff at 15-11.
Overall, though the boys were nervous and might have panicked a little here and there, their game still ended brilliantly at 6-1 to Eusoff. Good game boys, let’s get the nerves out of the system and soar even higher at the match against Kent Ridge, 21/1, Friday, 17 00 – 19 00.
PS. Special thanks to Chris for going down and helping me stream and commentate the boys’ match!
