You snooze you lose!!! But our boys were definitely set for a win as they woke up bright and early for a game at Utown on a Saturday morning! As we slowly inch towards to semi-finals (and hopefully the finals!), every game is a crucial one and this morning we were up against King Edward VII (KEVII) Hall! Despite it being a Saturday morning, it was heartwarming to still see Eusoffians making their way down to the UTSH to support our boys!
Isaiah (#91) going in for a spike as he reaches over the blocker’s hands
As the first set began, KEVII got the first point as they took advantage of the empty space at the right corner of our court and we were not able to react in time to save the ball. Freshie Isaiah made his debut this IHG on an amazing note as he was on fire with his hard and accurate spikes, evident throughout the game, helping Eusoff gain the upper hand in the first set. The team was confident, without the slightest tinge of nervousness as we managed to gain control of the game and slowly increased the score gap at 7-2. However, KEVII lightly tapped the ball over the net which caught Eusoff off guard that even nimble Zhao Xiang was unable to save the ball. Not to worry though, as our boys managed to capitalise on their opponents’ mistakes while earning points of their own with their insane spikes. Before we knew it, Eusoff was far in the lead at 12-6, doubling KEVII’s score. Our boys were not complacent and continued to keep their head in the game, whipping up serve aces and putting up a brilliant defence. At one point, Isaiah and Lok Heng showed some sik chemistry as they fell to the ground with a big THUMP and managed to save the ball. Another of our spikes went straight down towards KEVII’s ground as they attempted to continue the rally by kicking the ball over but unfortunately it failed to pass the net, bringing the set to its game point at 24-9. The set eventually ended with a score of 25-9 to Eusoff!
In the second set, KEVII remained driven and executed commendable dive saves and attacks. KEVII once again managed to take advantage of empty gap at the right corner of Eusoff’s court and smashes straight into the court. Eusoff was determined to not let the same mistake repeat as they improved on their court formation making sure each individual knew when and where to take the shot. Freshie Lok Heng again proved his abilities as he ended a long rally with a smash to the right end of KEVII’s court. Eusoff served up an ace which managed to pass the net by a small margin giving Eusoff the lead by a whopping 10 points at 19-9. Eusoff comfortably bagged another win with an effortless kick save by Kaw Chun, ending the set at 15-25.

After a short commercial break as we watched both halls help to clean up a huge puddle of spilt ice, we were (finally) on to the next set! Ex-bash king Wen Xiang spiked right into the center of the court and KEVII was unable to respond quickly enough to save the ball, giving EH the first point of the set. Zhao Xiang helped continue our winning streak with a light tap of the ball over the net. Freshie Lok Heng was not only a master of spiking but also showed amazing defence bringing the score to 5-1. Zhao Xiang was on fire as he served up and ace bringing us far in the lead once again at 12-2. KEVII unfortunately hit the ball out of court into the spectator stands (this reporter sure am glad she dodged it!). And with that, the set was Eusoff’s again at 25-7!
GOOD JOB BOYS, let us continue our winning streak hopefully all the way to the finals! We go again after the Lunar New Year break!
