The spotlight was all on our Volleyball boys as they debuted their first game this season! The Volleyballers were all smiles as they started their warm-up, obviously excited to finally join in all that IHG action that has been ongoing. The boys were up against Raffles Hall (RH), who were confident as they have just tasted their first victory the day before, against KEVII.
THe boys were off to a good start as they were in the lead at 0-5 with brilliant smashes by Freshie Lok Heng. However, Raffles manage to score their first point as our defence brought the ball straight into the net and landed in our own court. Raffles managed to catch up slowly as they picked up their momentum. Captain Pei Jie did a beautiful set for Mark but unfortunately, the ball did not manage to cross the net giving Raffles a point at 3-5. This minor setback left Mark unfazed as he displayed a series of insane spikes throughout the game (yes, this reporter is sure supporters present would have vividly remembered those sik smashed by #69!).

Unfortunately, around 10 minutes into the set, Raffles Hall managed to overtake Eusoff and took the lead at 8-7. Raffles pulled off a dive save but the ball was unfortunately hit out of court allowing Eusoff to reach a double digit at 10-12. There was a slight confusion after a Raffles spike as they insisted the ball was in the court. However, the referee gave the point to Eusoff and called an out ball allowing Eusoff to reclaim the lead at 15-14. Massive Mark was able to score a point by with light tap over (WOT!), which Raffles did not anticipate for. Massive Mark was really on a streak here as he scores another point with his power smash directly into Raffles’ court. This was followed by a serve by Mark (yep again!), as Raffles fell onto the floor in an attempt to save it but scrambled to do so. The first set ended with some action as Mark did an unexpected dive and saved the ball with a single hand, opening up a chance for Lok Heng to score the winning point as he spiked the ball right down onto Raffles ground, ending the set with 25-19.
Raffles began the second set with a service ace as Eusoff fumbled and failed to hit the ball over the net. However, they were not so lucky with their second serve as it went out of the court. We saw great defence by Massive Mark and Freshie Zhao Xiang at the net, as they showed much chemistry, jumping in sync and successfully blocking the ball – what a cute duo. Lok Heng wowed the crowd with his serve ace bringing Eusoff in the lead at 5-1. Eusoff did a spike that went straight into the opponent’s face (they shall not be named to avoid further embarrassment), OUCH!

This set saw some great defence as Freshie Lok Heng saved the ball again and ex-bash king Wen Xiang coupled with Benny, displayed brilliant defence at the net, helping Eusoff lead by a great margin at 22-11. The game point was heart racing as Benny managed to hit the ball just over the net with one hand bringing the second victory to EH at 25-12!!
Raffles started the third set on a high as they were in the lead at 5-1 as Zhao Xiang jumps but misses his shot at a quick ball by a small margin. Mark saved the ball again but Raffles defence was on point allowing them to continue leading at 7-5. Freshie Lok Heng came back in action as he helped the team catch up to 7-6 with his monstrous spike. Raffles attempted another spike but possibly due to bad judgement, the ball smashed straight into the net and finally, Eusoff is finally in the lead again at 22-23. Eusoff ends off triumphant at 25-22, winning all 3 sets straight!
As we celebrate our first sweet victory, let’s continue to give our support to the Volleyball boys as they continue their journey!
