We were in for an adrenaline pumping match as we were up against our rival hall – Temasek! It has been an arduous journey for the volleyball boys and those hours of trainings paid off as they earned a spot in the finals! Despite it being a Saturday morning, the sports hall was flooded with Eusoffians decked in yellow bringing along their drums, whistles and enthusiasm!
Eusoff set the standards high in the first set as we led by a score of 4-0. Temasek was a little off with their ball control as they hit 2 consecutive outballs. Captain Peijie perfectly assisted friendly giant Mark, allowing him to execute a smash, bringing the score to 5-2 to EH. Temasek was fired up to catch up but their attempt at defence failed as they managed to block the shot but ended up hitting the ball out of court. Temasek made a comeback as it was Eusoff’s turn to hit an unfortunate out ball, bringing the score to 6-7 to Temasek. Friendly giant Mark could not tolerate falling behind and came back with a monstrous spike, tying the game at 8-8. The game was intense towards the end of the set as the scores were extremely tight. Points were basically being exchanged between the two halls. Volleyball sensation Lok Heng was impressive with a couple of spikes and smashes, which touched nothing but the empty spaces in between the Temasek players! The spectators went wild, with the Mark-Heng spikes combo! LYLC cum Bash King Wen Xiang also sprung into action as he smashed a few balls straight into empty spaces! However, Temasek called a timeout to stop our momentum, which allowed them to come up with a strategic plan and a few mistakes by our own players. Unable to stop Temasek’s momentum, the first set went to TH as they ended with a defence score at 24-26.

Our boys were back on court for the second set, looking fresh as they used the break wisely to plan out a Plan B against Temasek. Superstar Lok Heng started off well, extending Eusoff’s lead with a few unstoppable spikes into empty spaces again! The crowd was very impressed by him and hmmm this reporter can safely say that Lok Heng has earned himself a few fangirls in the crowd! Captain Peijie saw the opportunity and tipped the ball over the net, but it fell short and landed straight into the net instead. Unfazed by his mistake, Captain Peijie picked himself up, with the entire sea of yellow in the supporter’s stand cheering for him! WOW! The score was 6-5 to EH.

Liverpool fan Irfan then swooped in for a dive in attempt to save the ball but missed it by a close inch. Yet again, Superstar Lok Heng skillfully executed a serve ace, earning himself a round of applause from the crowd! The Great Wall of Eusoff was back in action again as the duo, friendly giant Mark and sassy Zhe Wei, managed to block a couple of Temasek’s spikes! There there, extending the score to 18-14 to Eusoff! Eusoff again showed their team chemistry as they worked brilliantly together, scrambling up and down the court to save a ball that was almost out! Eusoff then won their first set by a fair margin, with a score of 25-18! SIKKKK!

The third set started off with a sik loooooooong rally but the point was given to Temasek as we committed a violation by touching the net. Tough luck! Our boys brought out their A game by showing off their superb chemistry on court! Feeling jittery, Temasek players made a few consecutive mistakes, which extended our lead to 6-0 at one point! Volleyball sensation Zhao Xiang impressed the crowd with his jump height, as he sprung extremely high in the air, before smashing the ball straight into the Temasek players! Another point for Eusoff! Amazing performance in the third set as we were leading by a huge margin at 10-4! Friendly giant Mark was not so friendly in this game as he delivered multiple monstrous spikes, which smashed straight into the Temasek players!!! OUCH… the impact was so great that the Temasek players took quite a while to get back onto their feet! Volleyball sensation Zhao Xiang and Superstar Lok Heng were not just great at attack, they were solid at defence too as they each blocked their opponents’ spikes! Bash King Wen Xiang had some marvellous spikes against Temasek, contributing to Eusoff’s lead! We ended the set at 17-25 and we were off to the final set!

Our bois were determined to finish the game in the 4th set. The set started out with a failed spike by Temasek as the ball did not cross the net. Temasek came up with a new strategy and had a 3-men wall but friendly giant Mark’s spikes and smashes were unstoppable and indestructible!!! At that point in time, the score was 4-4! Friendly Giant Mark was one to look out for in this match as he showed no mercy to his opponents, smashing straight at their faces and denying all of their spikes, extending our score to a large margin!

Though showing no mercy, he showed sportsmanship and apologised to his opponents, truly a class act! Superstar Lok Heng was extremely fantastic in this set as he managed to send consecutive monstrous spikes into empty spaces! Some say that he was venting his pent up anger for the past 22 years!!! We were back in the game as Lok Heng, Zhao Xiang and Mark continued to serve some incredible spikes. SiKSIK serves ace by Bash King Wen Xiang as we are in the lead at 21-14. Finally, the last game point… Superstar Lok Heng showed no mercy and smashed into Temasek’s court! The crowd went wild with the bois!!!! AAAAAAAAND, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!
Congratulations to our volleyball boys for bringing back the GOLD for Eusoff for the first time!!! The blood, sweat and tears have finally paid off for you guys! We are so proud of you! With the IHG coming to an end soon, let’s continue to show support to the remaining sports! Let’s go Eusoff!
