The volleyball girls jumped into the second day of the IHG unfaltered, despite their defeat the previous day. Our resilient volleyballers are back in action against Raffles Hall this evening, a very crucial game to determine whether or not they make it to the semi-finals.
Our girls started off strong as they scored 2-0 at the beginning of their first set. Everything fell into place as the girls looked calm and exuded confidence, fiercely spiking balls into Raffles’ ground. Raffles showed commendable defence too as they tried their best to receive our girls’ monstrous spikes. A rally was ongoing few minutes into the game as we witness brilliant defence by Jolene and Yanshan! The score was to Eusoff as Raffles hit the ball out of court. Soon, it was set point to Eusoff and Jolene sent a strong serve that caught Raffles off guard, and failed to hit the ball over the net. Just like that, the first set ended with a score of 25-6 to Eusoff.
In the second set, the girls came back onto the court, raring to go! They were on fire as superstar Aileen, was not only very noticeable for being the only player in black but more so because of her excellent defensive skills as she dived numerous times to save the ball. Most, if not all, attempts were successful. Sick stuff! The second set saw many aces (an ace is when the a player serves and scores a point immediately) as drunk giraffe Wei Lynn served up some points consecutively at the beginning of the set, just by serving alone! The supporters were in awe as their jaws dropped to the floor, watching Wei Lynn and her merciless serves. What a start for the set!
As the match was well underway, freshie Mabel once again awed the crowd with her wonderful spike which startled Raffles as they were unable receive it, earning Eusoff a point. In the first half, we witnessed a rally that went on for quite a bit, with both teams relentlessly fighting for every point. Both teams executed hard smashes and were extremely determined to keep the ball from touching the floor with impressive dives and digs to save every ball. After a looooooooooooong rally, RH earned a point as our spike was too strong that it flew out of the court. Just then, Basketball sensation Vivian, made her debut in the game and showed her prowess by spiking the ball right smack into an empty spot, earning a point for Eusoff! As the game continued, Captain Yen Yi showed solid smashes repeatedly bagging some points for the team! IMPRESSIVE! Eusoff was in the lead at 22-17.
Raffles kept their heads up and continued fighting and scored 2 points just a few minutes after a timeout was called. Our Eusoff girls felt the tension but did not falter and picked up their momentum quickly. The set ended with a score of 25-20 to Eusoff. Our volleyball girls took the second set and eventually the game with a score of 2-0! Well done!
The team displayed great teamwork and showed seamless chemistry on court. The strong trust and faith amongst the teammates definitely played the largest role in bringing home today’s victory. This reporter sure is excited for the semi-finals and I hope you are too! Let’s bring home that GOLD!
