The volleyball girls played their final IHG match against KE7 Hall on 8 February 2020, and fought hard for IHG gold. They ultimately came in first runner’s up, and the overall score was 3-1 to KE7. The girls undoubtedly put up an extremely good fight and we were all so proud to watch them give their very all for their final IHG lap.

First set:

The match started with Zoey, LYLC Kai Qi, freshies Yunxi, Yao Yi, captain Aileen and Yen Yi. With amazing defence by Yao Yi against KE7’s stars spiker and Zoey’s tyco service, the score was 10-7 to Eusoff. KE7 proved to not be an easy opponent as they rally with our players, catching up with Eusoff (14-13 to Eusoff). Kai Qi made back to back drop balls and brought the score to 21-15. Our players’ impressive plays lead them to a win for the first set, as Yao Yi spiked the ball into the corner of the opponent’s court! The score was 25-15 to Eusoff.

Yen Yi provided thunderous spike after spike to keep her team level in the match.

Second set:

The second set began with a score of 7-6 to Eusoff, with our girls fighting tooth and nail for every point! KE7’s star player Felicia (a Team SG player!) spiked at every opportunity she could and won many points for KE7. Our players found ourselves lagging behind with a score of 13-17 to KE. A mistake was made at one point when Aileen set the ball too far and Yao Yi spiked it out. The set ended with a 1-minute rally and Yunxi diving for the ball, but failing to save it. The score was 25-14 to KE.

Third set:

The third set was a tight one as the score was tied at 6-6. “Boom goes the cannon that is Yao Yi”, said Volleyball male team captain Zhao Xiang on the Eusoff SMC livestream of the match. Indeed, Yao Yi made a THUNDER SPIKE into the opponent’s court which won us our 9th point. KE7’s potent serves definitely posed a great challenge to our players, who fought really hard nonetheless. Kai Qi and Aileen were seen hyping the team up at one point, trying their very best to help the players on court maintain composure. Our girls unfortunately lost the set, with a score of 25-15 to KE.

Fourth set:

The fourth set was crucial for our girls as it was their last hope for being able to clinch IHG gold. Yao Yi started off the set with a service ace, which was a great start. We were leading throughout the game, with the score becoming 19-16 to Eusoff. A total of four rotational errors were also made throughout the matches (as pointed out by the commentator in the livestream), sadly giving four points to KE7. KE7 managed to catch up and tie at 19-19. A few powerful spikes by KE7 and errors by our players brought the score to 23-19. It was heartening and moving to watch our girls fight their hardest till the very very end, and even till the very last point. Our team failed to save a ball and watched it fly into the net, allowing KE7 to clinch the final set with a score of 25-19, winning IHG gold.

Final score: EH 1:3 KE7

Good job to the girls for fighting so hard in the finals. We are all incredibly proud of how far they have come in IHG, and their plays have inspired many of us to work harder at our sports and play better! They genuinely are some of the most amazing people (on and off court) and I’m glad they attained outstanding results! Congratulations to the volleyballers! 🙂
