Having completed 3/4 of their IHG journey, finals are an earshot away for the Eusoff male Trug team. After being under the burning sun for 1 hour, they clutched a crucial W against Sheares for their semi-finals match. I reckon the boys were nervous, but their desire to win was even stronger, and can definitely be seen on the field.
The line with Robbo, Darren, Zhao and Amadeus presented the team with a strong start. They had amazing pressure which made SH fumble and mispass multiple times. Not letting these opportunities go to waste, they attempted going for as many tries as possible (majority of it being successful). This line played in a calm and collected manner. The way they brought the ball down to the try zone appeared effortless and its really interesting to see how each player fits when they set up a play in order to assist each other. One highlight from this line was when Eusoff had gotten a fresh 6 but there were only 10 seconds left, and everyone thought there was not enough time. HOWEVER, Robbo, Darren and Zhao pulled through with their clean passes and break-ankle moves which resulted in Zhao scoring a try (+dive combo).
what an impressive close shave by Robbo, looks like us siam-ing away from our lectures too.
Not-so-fun fact: During the second line’s play, a Sheares player dislocated his hand (or arm?) and the field suddenly turned into a doctor’s office as Shern, our med student-athlete, along with other players, performed this whole procedure to pop that players’ hand back into place (gnarly.) But once everything was settled, Shern and the rest of the line were back on their laser-focus defence to prevent any SH players from getting past them. This line drove hard to bring down the ball and although not all was successful, they always made sure to get it back by defending SH twice as hard. There were also pretty sick setups that this line created. For example, Shern, Kenneth and Keng Han finally nailed one of their setups and they scored a try pretty easily.
medsku Shern plays trug well and can even fix shoulders on the field, what can this man not do sia......
Last but not least, the third line with Glenn, Matt, Ming Sheng and Joel also played splendidly. Not only do they have aggressive defence, their attack is solid as well. There were quite a few times where we took away Sheares’ ball because this line’s pressure was too intense. Every drop ball or fumble, this line was quick to react to bring the ball down to the try line by driving as hard as possible. Together with their big brain moves, they were able to score clean and easy tries as well! Some memorable moments for this line was when Matt and Glenn scored tries after shimmying through a bunch of SH defenders, AND they didn’t get touched (so skinnyyyy).
another very.... interesting dive..... i mean, if it works it works ya.
Once again, congratulations on your win, guys! Please make sure to support the guys and watch the Instgram live on @eusoff_smc / @eh_touchrugby for their finals on 25/1, Tuesday, 9PM! LET’S GET THAT GOLD BOIS!
