The day has finally come, the first match of the IHG 21/22 season for our Trug boys male team against Raffles. Although some had first-game jitters, they still killed it, even under the burning afternoon sun. Today, the guys really scored until they couldn't score no more (for real, the scoreboard would’ve run out of numbers if they scored 1 more) and it was definitely an exciting game.
In the first lineup, we have Shern, Kenneth, Keng Han and Wei Guan. In the first set, this line started off with defence which made RH fumble right off the bat, resulting in a turnover. Shern exploited this chance by driving hard down the field and scoring the first try of the season. Again, with Eusoff’s banging defence, RH fumbles the ball again and this leads to Keng Han scoring another try with the turnover. With this line’s great chemistry, they scored easy tries left and right. The second and third sets consisted of even stronger defence by Eusoff and RH scoring limited tries because they kept getting caught with the guys’ speedy touches despite their good attempts. Some highlights of this line were definitely Shern sprinting down the field like a bullet to score a try, leaving a big gap between himself and the defenders. Another would also be Keng Han also springing past his defenders (making one of them fall) and then scoring a try.

The second line with Robbo, Darren, Amadeus, Wen Kai played a calm and collected game. Right off the bat, Wen Kai scores a try after a set of immaculate passes. When the ball is in RH’s possession, they get it back right away with their good defence. This was also brought forward during the rest of the sets, there were multiple superb touches made to stop RH from scoring any tries. There were so many highlights for this line, some include: Robbo slithering past 3 RH defenders like nothing and then scoring a try, Wen Kai being the top scorer by receiving multiple long and accurate passes from the others, and Darren and Robbo making sneaky passes to each other before scoring a try in front of so many defenders. This line’s intensity did not drop the slightest, it was a game well played!

For the third line with Matt, Glenn, Nicolai, Joel, like the rest of the lines, scored a try soon after the whistle blew. Their pressure caught RH off guard as they kept dropping the ball, presenting us with multiple turnovers. This line passed down the ball very smoothly but they drove hard, rewarding Eusoff with multiple scores on the scoreboard. Following the first set, Matt proceeded to score another 2 tries and made the best out of the turnovers Eusoff got after defending hard. Nicolai also made sure that no one could enter the try zone by touching them while Glenn sprinted past RH’s defence like nothing and scored 2 tries for the team!

Although Eusoff was leading by quite a lot the guys really didn’t show any mercy for RH because they seem to just keep scoring tries after tries while maintaining that tight defence. RH definitely faced a difficult challenge today, but major props to them as well for fighting back just as hard!
