Overall: EH 31 - 0 KE
Today, our Eusoff male Trug team face-off KE VII for their final preliminary match before heading to the semi-finals. Although the sun was unforgiving, the guys still conquered the field and it was a great match to watch.
Shern, Keng Han, Kenneth and Aravind started the first set on D. However, KE didn’t go very far with the ball due to the pressure from the guys’ tight defence. With the ball back in Eusoff’s possession, they were quick to bring down the ball to their try zone, allowing Aravind to score the first try of the game. Although there were a few fumbles by Eusoff, this line managed to turn over almost all of KE’s ball by making good and strong touches. With Shern’s guidance, the rest followed the gameplay extremely nicely by driving hard and giving good passes to assist one another, allowing them to capitalise on these opportunities. As a result, this line was able to score a total of 10 clean tries throughout the three sets (ya’ll how good..).
shernanigans with the beuatiful one hand try
Robbo, Darren, Zhao and Tien were the next line to play, and just like the first line up, they brought the ball down the field smoothly and scored a try (by Tien) as soon as the set began. This line’s really strong D pressured KE from scoring any tries and to fumble which gave the guys multiple chances to score tries. One of the highlights of the game was during the last few seconds of their last set where Robbo passed an unexpected ball to Darren who managed to catch it (like he knew!) before passing it on to Tien who attempted a try. Although the try didn’t manage to go through, it was a phenomenal play to watch and shows their undeniable chemistry. Another highlight was when Tien did a mad interception of KE’s ball and sprinted past every player to score a try. With this, the guys scored a total of 14 tries by the end of the third set.
man rly intercepted and sprinted all the way to score a try, KE and the ref cant even come close....
Matt, Joel, Fabien, Ming Sheng, the third line, scored a total of eight tries for the team. Throughout the three sets, despite the huge disparity between the scores, the guys stayed focused and went for every touch to earn many opportunities for each other to attempt tries. With their monster defence, they really didn’t give KE a chance to even get close to the try line. A song lyric that reminded me of today’s game is: “take, take, take it all, but (they) never give” (i’m sorry everybody) since they really did not waste any of the turnover balls (despite the minor fumbles here and there, the guys always made sure to get them back!)
another EZ try <3
I hope that the Ws they earned the past two games gave the team even more confidence and encouragement for their upcoming semi-finals and finals games. Let’s give the guys our biggest support so make sure to tune in to the Instagram live at @eh_touchrugby on 23/1, Sunday, 12PM!
