Final Score: 12 -11

I do not even have to describe this match in detail to tell you how intense this match was, all I have to say is that it ended with not one but TWO extra times and a sudden death. I believe half of Eusoff was having their eyes peeled on this match. This match was definitely the match of the season, the match of IHG, and I might even say the match of the year even though it’s only January. From the get-go the boys were locked in. Their heads were definitely in the game. I wish I could be a part of their team, honestly. The team really owes it to the seniors, who guide their respective pods with such dedication and passion.

For the first line we had fresh legs Kai, Yui the senpai, Wesley the CLUTCH, and unassuming Joel. I don’t want to pick favourites, but this is easily one of my favourite pods to see playing on the field. As I have already shared in the previous article, Yui’s and Wesley’s chemistry is truly undeniable. To top it off we have the calm and composed Kai supporting this amazing duo. But there is one person I would like to give a special shoutout to and that is Joel, Mr Jolejet. He is truly an unassuming player who is so humble off the field. But boy oh boy can this superstar play. He scored not once but twice! In the words of The Team, this C4 boy is definitely underrated and underappreciated. Joel stayed wide making it easy for his pod to carry out their play and once KR’s defence was distracted they exploited that moment and passed a long pass to Joel.

LYLC Wesley really going all out and being the clutch of the team with his great pass!

For the next pod, we had Shern, Tien Chun, Darren and Keng Han. I must say this is one of the most aggressive lines I have seen. Tien Chun, also our softball captain, simply does not hold back. He feels so much for the team and really wants the ball badly. His hunger for the ball is inspiring. We also have the incredibly confident Shern who just naturally commands the field. He is so confident that the referees don’t call the play, I think they low key wait for Shern to say something. We cannot forget Keng Han who had an amazing showing as a freshie at today’s finals after sitting out the past 2 matches due to player rotation.

Tien grits his teeth in determination to touchdown as he throws his whole body on the line (literally)

For the final line, we had Glenn, Matthew, Jaypy, and Mitchell. This line is the most stylo milo. With Jaypy’s striking hair to Glenn pulling up his shirt half the time, he might as well wear a crop top, this line is very cool.

Man Matthew got both brawn and looks(?) as he suavely runs with the ball

Okay getting down to the nitty gritty and what went down in this amazing match. At the end of the second half, the initial final score was tied at 5 - 5. Hence, we had to go into extra time. So the boys proceeded to play 3 minutes for each line to see who would emerge as the winner. However, everytime Eusoff scored, KR scored and when KR scored, Eusoff scored. This first extra time was about to end with 9 - 8 to us. With the last touch left, everyone on the sideline was just waiting for someone to touch the KR player with the ball to seal the win. But by some clutch move, this KR player came out of nowhere and ran the ball all the way down and scored. So the first extra time ended with a 9 - 9.

Hence, the team had to play another extra time. It was a lot of volleying around until the final showdown between our last line and KR with 1 minute and 30 seconds left on the clock. It was 10 - 11 and we were down by one. In that last thirty seconds, Glenn got the ball and flew into the area to score a try BEFORE getting touched. It took awhile for the referee to call it but it was clear to us that he scored a game-saving try making the score 11 - 11 after the second extra time.

Superheroes do exist and one of them happen to be Touch Rugby Captain Glen ✨

This meant that the game was still not over. The team proceeded to play 3 versus 3 to sudden death. During the sudden death, KR started with the ball first and we managed to ‘touch them out’ and gain possession. Wesley, Kai, and Yui played the ball down very slowly and tactfully. My heart dropped when Wes passed the ball to Kai and it looked like it was going to be lost but Kai dove for that ball. They then proceeded to slowly bring it down with the very calm and composed Yui leading the pack. Yui is really a senpai la. They then reached the last touch. Yui used his dodging skills to confuse KR. He then passed the ball to Kai. Kai ran in deep to create ground while Wesley prepped himself to run to the far end where he was unguarded. Kai saw that opening of Wesley’s, passed the ball over, and they scoreddddd!!!

It was really a moment to remember and this match was so inspiring. Good job boys for being 👑Touch Rugby Champions👑!!
