Overall: EH 4 - 6 KR
After having their first game against Sheares postponed due to lightning (not sure where this came from because the sky was clear), the girls started their IHG 21/22 season with an extremely important game against Kent Ridge, the reigning champions and probably their biggest rivals.
The first line which consisted of Claudia, Jeyin, Elis and Phoebe was fierce. They started the first set with great defence and hard drives to fend off KR. Although KR managed to score a few tries against the girls, they were not discouraged and the intensity of their play did not decrease at all. One player that stood out was Claudia. Her experience in touch rugby can definitely be seen when she plays. She landed a try for the team with her speedy moves and also made crucial touches to stop KR from scoring more tries with her equally speedy defence. A really amazing play from this line!
In the next line, we have Theng Xuan, Alicia, Yiyin, and Audrey - another spicy lineup. With their brutal defence, drives and try attempts, I could see they were hungry for the win. Right off the bat, Theng Xuan, the team captain, can be seen leading the group to execute fire plays which kept KR on their toes. Together with their flawless teamwork, the girls were able to make multiple try attempts and score a try for Eusoff! Their chemistry can also be seen when they move fluidly together during their defence (so. immaculate.)
For the last lineup, we have Sheann, Nikki, Humaira and Kai Wen (or Kiwi for short). Like the other lines, they did not disappoint. The girls created a really clean play and had strong defence which resulted in them scoring 2 tries while also giving KR a difficult time to score against them. There were a lot of magnificent touches made (even with the subpar quality of the stream you could tell), especially near the try zone, which helped to cancel out any tries attempted by KR and also in getting turnovers. The girls capitalised on their turnovers and managed to score 2 beautiful tries, one by Sheann and the other by Nikki.
Unfortunately, KR was still able to penetrate through the girls’ tough defence and clinched the win. Despite KR being in the lead during the game, the team was relentless and did not back down easily. It’s alright, we’ll get them next time, girls!
Please stay tuned for their next match on Tuesday, 11/1 at 6.30 pm against Sheares and hop on to the @eh_touchrugby Instagram account to watch their live stream and show them your utmost support in the chat!
