Our Tennis boys were pumped up and ready to win their highly anticipated IHG finals! After numerous months of training, sweat and tears, it all finally came down to this moment, where our boys were hoping they could hopefully claim the championship!
1st Singles
First up, we have our ever fashionable Captain Bobby for the very first singles match! While Bobby was his usual suave and determined self, with sick serves and smashing returns, his opponent was unfortunately visibly tougher as compared to him, making it an extremely tough matchup for Bobby. Despite his best efforts, he eventually loses the first set, 2-6. Not losing his cool however, Bobby still tried his very best to catch up to make a comeback, but it was just not to be, as he loses 0-6.
EH 0:1 TH
Captain Bobby tried to set our boys on a good start, however the match up was not in his favor. Despite that, it was an incredible show of determination and persistence.
2nd Singles
Up next to maintain our title pursuit, we have the ever reliable Tristan, once again proving why he is one of the better players on the team! Tristan easily sailed his way through the very first set, beating his opponent easy at 6-0. Tristan was an absolute scoring machine throughout, only losing his very first game on the second set at 2-1. However, he recovered real fast, not giving his opponent a single chance after that loss, winning his second set at 6-2. It was a true tennis masterclass.
EH 1:1 TH
Golden boy Tristan being a gentleman here. He once again put up an incredible showing for the fans.
1st Doubles
Our very first pair, zen king Zhen Nan and Yu Rui represented us for our first doubles. Their opponents were tough cookies to beat as well, and despite drawn-out and spectacular rallies, our boys just kept falling short somehow, bringing the first set to 2-6. There was a really spectacular try by Zhen Nan as he tumbled to the ground in an attempt to return the ball but to no avail. Undaunted, our doubles still gritted their teeth and tried even harder than before, managing to win a game at 1-3. It was another round of rallies with great volleys and returns, but it just really wasn’t our boys day as they either misses or hit regrettable outs. They eventually loses the second set at 2-6.
EH 1:2 TH
Zhen Nan and Yu Rui tried to break down the opponent, but were unfortunately, and agonizingly, defeated in the end.
2nd Doubles
To carry on our winning luck, we have fan-favourite combo Malaysian superstar (Zhe) Han and Elvis! With a star-studded ensemble, it was no wonder that the two of them absolutely wrecked their opponent right from the start, winning the first set 6-0! It was relatively smooth sailing for the next set as well with them easily winning up to 5-1, where it actually felt like Han wanted to give his opponent a chance. Han then decided that the shots and videos taken of him were too little, and proceeded to lengthen the game up to 5-3 (he actually moved Ronald to get a better video of him what even?), before deciding it was time to stop monkeying around as he ended off the match at 6-3.
EH 2:2 TH
Han was obviously too overwhelming for his opponents. There was no one this IHG that could stop him.
3rd Singles
Last but not least, we have Si Heng playing the very last singles. As our tiebreaker, there was an air of nervousness amongst the supporters as he stepped up. Despite that, Si Heng started the first set really strong, managing to win his first 2 games with relative ease. It was a tough game right from the start as the games were constantly tied, with plenty of deuces. But at 4-4, there was a light of hope as Si Heng went on to win the first set at 6-4!
Si Heng’s grit and cautiousness gave him the first set.
However, he returned one too many lobs, losing the second set at 2-6 in an absolutely nail-biting set. It was all down to the ultimate tie breaker, and every single point played was nerve wrecking as all the supporters cheered with every point won and visibly slumped with every point lost. It was a heartbreaking loss as Si Heng eventually loses the tie breaking set at 2-6.
Final Score- EH 2:3 TH
An embrace from Bobby to Si Heng after his painful defeat. This picture summarizes what the tennis team was built upon. A family for each other.
Despite our (really really tight) loss, our Tennis boys definitely gave it their all for this Finals! Let us remember the spectacular moments they had, and celebrate every single victory they made in the process! Well done boys!
