With one victory already to their name, the Eusoff tennis boys came down to the courts prepared to claim another one. Their opponent today was Sheares, who were supposedly less of a challenge than the previous game, but nevertheless, the team was not going to let their guard down.

Starting off the first singles yet again was captain Timothy, who went even with his opponent for the first two games. His opponent was strong, but only physically though, as he hit multiple balls out of the court, while Tim capitalised on his own strength to take the next three games in a row before SH could reply. With the game score at 4-2, Tim mixed up his playstyle with backhand cross court shots, lighter underhand hits, and powerful returns to send his opponent scrambling, and he was able to finish the rest of the set with little resistance. The first singles went to Tim 9-3, who humbly refused to comment on his match but instead, cheered the team on with a “Let’s go Eusoff”.

First singles: Timothy 9-3 (W)

Yew Kit and Derrick were the pair who starred in the first doubles game, which opened with a particularly fierce rally between the two teams. Despite having a rough start, a strong overhead smash straight to the ground from Derrick helped to swing the battle in their favour, and they managed to find their groove and bring the match back from a slight deficit. Slowly and steadily working their way through the games with their superior teamwork and strategy, the pair survived multiple sudden deaths and eventually took the lead over Sheares at 4-3. Feeling all warmed up and with plenty of tricks up their sleeve, Yew Kit and Derrick started to pull ahead in the set, reaching 7-4. Despite several service faults from both sides, the Eusoff pair maintained their composure and found themselves in yet another sudden death scenario in the last game, but an out ball from SH gave Yew Kit and Derrick the victory they deserved.

First doubles: Yew Kit and Derrick 9-6 (W)

the pair with insane chemistry manages to steal the game even at a sudden death!

The second singles match was played by none other than our tennis superstar Han, who claimed that he wouldn’t be running much today. His confidence was not misplaced, as he made the first few games look effortless by reaching 4-0 without breaking a sweat. While he may have dropped 3 games, Han was cool, calm and collected throughout his match as he played with his opponent. His thunderous serves carried him far, and as SH just could not handle Han’s overwhelming presence and ability, it did not take long for the match to conclude 9-3 in Han’s favour.

Second singles: Han 9-3 (W)

Coming in hot for the second doubles was everybody’s favourite Finance Director Yi Chen as well as seasoned player Divakar. With food constantly on his mind, it was clear that Yi Chen was hungry for the win, as he leapt into the air to return balls with surprising agility despite all his uncle-like mannerisms. Div too kept up with Yi Chen by displaying some sick moves of his own, with strong serves and solid returns. While they both had their moments, the doubles pair faced tough opposition and went neck and neck with Sheares all the way until the match was tied at 8-8. With the points going back and forth, it was an incredibly close game, but Sheares managed to barely win the last game 7-5, bringing the set score to 8-9. Despite the loss, it was a good showing from the two tennis seniors, and their efforts were definitely not in vain.

Second doubles: Divakar and Yichen 8-9 (L)

With all eyes on the intense ongoing doubles game, Shaoxuan thrived from the lack of pressure and took the lead from the get-go, reaching 3-0 with his consistent forearm returns. While SH may have taken one game from Shaoxuan after his flawless streak, he remained unfazed and continued his dominant performance. An unfortunate double fault gave SH one more game at 7-2, and with the doubles game concluding, everybody’s attention shifted to Shaoxuan, which may have stressed him out a little as he conceded one more game to SH at 8-3. However, Shaoxuan refused to give his opponent an opportunity to get back into the game and quickly found himself at match point and sudden death, where he outlasted his opponent and claimed the final set against SH.

Third singles: Shaoxuan 9-3 (W)

With many close games and incredible plays from both sides, it was Eusoff who prevailed with an all-around fantastic showing. Advancing to the semi-finals with their 2-0 prelim record, the tennis team is looking good and are sure to further showcase their abilities in their upcoming match on Saturday. All the best to them, and be sure to catch them live to show your support!
