Eusoff Tennis (F) continued strong in their second preliminary match against Kent Ridge Hall. In similar fashion as the previous match, the athletes played on all 5 courts concurrently. (Anna is unhappy about this hearsay she wants the spotlight on her) Not in similar fashion as the previous match, Min did not have any motivational speeches or quotes prepared. Maybe she realised that she didn’t really need to do it because their team was bound to win either way.
For Singles, we have Erica, Wei Shan, and Renee. This is Wei Shan and Renee’s second IHG match of the week. For Doubles, we have Min and Violet, a power duo comprising the captain and the team’s notable senior, as well as Bernice and Anna, another formidable combination. The match commentaries were done separately by our publications member Alvin, as well as Khai Tjie the TM, with Khan, Jaslyn and Bryan Beh (Bernice’s brother. So wholesome!)
Our tennis girls huddling before the match showing their strong bond
Erica lost her first game against KR but took it back 1-1. In her third game, she accidently mis-hit the ball which flew to supper stretch, and she exclaimed, “Oh my!”. We were shocked too. Erica was constantly hustling and giving it her all to keep the ball alive (Alvin’s volleyball terms are really coming out here), hydrating herself with tears of the opponent, and water. Erica also happened to be the last match left on the court, and as she saw a horde of Eusoffians approaching her court, she said “I don’t like this”. Don’t reject our love and support Erica. She took her game 9-5. Great work as she closes the game for Eusoff.
Wei Shan fought hard against her opponent, initially being down 1-2. In her 4th game, she tied up 2-2, but was down 2-3 in the next. Despite her best efforts, pushing through many back and forth exchanges, KR took the match, 6-9. We applaud her fight and I’m sure she will come back stronger.
Renee brought the same fighting spirit as with her match against KE, securing the first game as well as the second game, 2-0. Not to mention the third game in a row, 3-0. Not to forget the fourth game with a perfect score. The clear pattern here is that she was winning all her games in a row. She got a perfect match against KE, and she does it again with KR, 9-0. Well done Renee, well done.
Min and Violet’s match seemed to be so quick that it flew under our commentators' radar. Last they checked, they were suddenly up 2-1. They grow up so fast indeed. Losing the 4th game brought them to 2-2 but again, their sheer tenacity got them the next game, 3-2. Violet was getting roasted by the commentators in the channel as they asked her to “do something”. Whatever the duo was doing it was working though, as they were up 7-3, and eventually 9-3. Min (not Minh as some as misspelled) and Violet (the person not the colour) were fast and furious.
Violet ready to capitalise on KRs mistakes
Bernice and Anna also confidently took their first game against KR. This time, Anna was crucially not wearing a blue cap, like the emoji, but rather a white cap. Switching it up. Bernice’s serve was so fast that we struggled to update the action in the Telegram live chat. It’s crazy that she has ‘nice’ in her name because she had zero chill in that match. They were up 2-0, and then 3-0 in a blink of an eye. Bernice truly brought glory to the Beh name. 6-1. Then 7-1. Finally, the game was over 9-1.
Eusoff’s overall score was 4-1, earning them their second preliminary match victory. Let’s continue to support them in this exciting journey!
