Picking where they left off last Saturday, the Tennis girls were back to compete for victory against Sheares Hall (SH). Previously, EH enjoyed a 2-1 lead in the match before bad weather forced the remaining 2 matches to be postponed. Thankfully, there were no signs of gloomy clouds threatening yet another delay and with the usual crowd of Eusoffians cheering them on, the players were raring to go. The scores for the two matches being played would follow the previous match before it was postponed.
First up was Le-Yi who continued her 3rd singles match down 2-7. Her shots were still as powerful as before and she made some incredible plays, including one where she hustled all over the court returning every ball coming her way for the point which earned loud applause from the supporters. She was unfazed by the score and carried herself like a true athlete, adopting a never-give-up attitude throughout her match. It was evident that Le-Yi was not going down without a fight, constantly sprinting about and giving it her all. She eventually dropped the match 2-9 but her strong effort and sportsmanship surely deserves to be recognised. Good job Le-Yi!

It was down to the 2nd doubles match to determine the winner of this battle between the halls. Hui En and Shu Jing were tied with their opponent 5-5 and nerves were running high amongst everyone present. The duo started off strong, with a powerful cross court hit from Hui En giving them the first game and the lead 6-5. It was obvious to all that the pair was playing with confidence and a great sense of urgency. They meant business that day, rattling off point after point with their creative and commanding shots, coupled with their firm defensive skills. Shu Jing showed some incredible net play and sent her opponent scrambling up and down the court trying to return her shots. The pair quickly jumped to a 7-5 and never looked back after. Powerful serves and well-paced shots were not returned by their opponent as they stormed to victory in the final game and with that, clinched the match 9-5! Cheers and celebrations filled the air as the duo had sealed Eusoff’s win in the match.

This first win for the girls team was evidently not an easy one for them. There were moments of nervousness over the outcome of the match but eventually, every player displayed great skill and stamina and fought hard for every point. It certainly was a well-deserved win for the team and a great start for their IHG season. Let’s continue to support the team for their future matches!
