It was finally the moment for our Tennis girls to show off their all, whatever they had spent months of training on, as the time for Finals finally descended. It was a tough opponent no doubt (I still have ptsd from the first match with TH), but our girls were ready and determined to have the best showdown ever.

First Singles

As the very first representative, Chloe could be seen being pretty nervous at the start, with the opponent gaining an advantage over her at 2-3. The fact that she usually plays doubles rather than singles did not help. However, as the game slowly progressed, Chloe really morphed from a cocoon of potential to a beautiful winning butterfly as she started to smash back and win games, all the way to a tie at 4-4. She eventually wins the first set at 6-4, and it really felt like the comeback of the century. Not one to be complacent though, Chloe started to steadily continue her winning momentum, and by then, it was pretty clear that she managed to figure out her opponent’s weaknesses as she started to hit back and made her opponent hit out constantly. She finally wins the game at 6-3, with thunderous applause. You go girl!

Second Singles

White skirt hottie Tricia was our second singles player and boy was she good. Dominating the game right from the start with her well-placed returns, she managed to get some great winners and aces throughout the match! She was absolutely killing it, and won the first set pretty easily at 6-2. Tricia never lost sight of what was most important though, that is working hard to win the game and with a couple more beautiful rallies and smashes, manages to bring home the very first win for Eusoff at 6-3. And all while looking absolutely great at the same time!

First Doubles

Fan favourites Faith and Shu Ling were the very first doubles, with great chemistry to boot! Even though it seemed hopeless at the start, since the opponent was able to figure out their strategy and kept on thwarting their plans, resulting in them losing the first set at 2-6. Our fan favourites never once appeared defeated but became even more determined instead, making the second set the most intense match ever, as they played so well that they managed to break even at 6-6, after a nail-biting 5-5 when they were previously at a disadvantage. It was so close that they even entered a tie-break (first to 7 wins). All eyes were locked on them as they started the tie-break. Alas, it was just not to be, and we finally ended the tie break at 5-7. Despite the loss, it was really a valiant effort on both girls’ part as they consistently tried to push through despite the not so ideal results.

Third Singles

Captain Le Yi was our last singles player, and she came in ready to kill. Poised and calm, she started to hit back with her signature smashes and carefully calculated returns. However, her opponent was Golem Meg (one of the best players in NUS 19/20 batch), making it a super tough match right from the start. She eventually loses the first set, 0-6. Not one to give up, Leyi never once slowed down or put in less effort, but rather was even more fired up and ready to give it her all, but Meg was simply too much. After consistently forcing Le Yi to cover much ground to return her balls, the misses brought the second set to an end, at 0-6. But again, I must stress that it was amazing to see Le yi fighting hard the whole time, never giving up so mad props to her for that!

EH 2:2 TH

Second Doubles

Violet and Shu Jing were our last hope to secure a championship, so there was no doubt the amount of tension in the air as we watched them take their every swing. However, their opponents were really strong too, and despite their efforts, were not able to overcome the brick walls that were their opponent. They eventually lost the first set, 1-6. When all hope appeared lost at 0-3, a small glimmer of hope started to fester as they won their first game at 1-3, and then once again at 2-3. Just when we thought we were on board a sinking ship once again as TH brought the score up to 2-5 ((just one point for them to win!), our girls pulled off a great save as they somehow pulled out great volleys and winners, or forcing their opponent to hit out, bringing the game up to 5-5. However, it really is with great regret that Shu Jing unfortunately returns with a tad too much strength at the last point, which ends up with TH winning the game, 5-6.

Final Score- EH 2:3 TH

Finals was a wild ride that was super intense most of the time, and despite the loss, our girls definitely showed off their fighting spirit and what it means to be a true athlete! Their never giving-up spirit is definitely something we can all learn from and emulate.
