OVERALL: 5-0 (L)

Today was a sad day for the Eusoff girls as despite their best efforts they lost the finals to Temasek. Even though the opponents team was stronger and the line-up was not in the favour of the girls they fought fearlessly till the end. Without further adieu let's move onto the matches.

1st Singles: Felicia 2-6, 6-7 (L)

First up we have our former captain Felicia. This match was one of the most exciting matches today. Both players were quite close to winning where Felicia lost both the sets by a very small margin. Her shots were powerful and her slices were accurate. Despite the opponents consistent attacks Felicia was calm and steady blocking her opponents every effort to win the point. The match went on to a tie breaker when the score was 6-6 for the second set. This was the most exciting moment of the match. All supporters were silent and the environment was filled with suspense as the players made their way up to the 7 points. Unfortunately, Felicia lost the tie breaker to Temasek. Despite her loss, we applaud Felicia for her hardwork and consistent performance.

Ever so focused, Felicia takes a ready stance to return the ball.

1st Doubles: Shu Ling and Violet 4-6, 6-2, 3-6 (L) Next up is the first doubles. Again, one of the most exciting matches today. Temasek went on to win Shu Ling and Violet with a score of 4-6 for the first set. However, our girls didn’t give up hope. With Violet running all around the court and Shu Ling with her unexpected and well thought shots Eusoff managed to get a comeback by winning the second set with a score of 6-2. This put the match on to a third set where despite their best efforts they lost the game to Temasek with a score of 3-6. We applaud them for their beautiful chemistry on court and consistent efforts towards not giving up hope even when the game was not in their favour.

Violet lunges forward, looking determined to return a low ball.

2nd Singles: Erica 0-6, 0-6 (L)

Moving on to our second doubles where Erica played the best player from Temasek. Hearsay, her opponent took a gap year to play professionally. When I asked Divakar about her opponent he told me that she could probably beat him. Despite knowing her opponent I was astonished to see how Erica still gave her best and played with an intention to win. This proves the competitiveness of us Eusoffian. No matter what, we do not go into a match with a losers mindset. Erica’s attitude towards the game today proved a point that EUSOFFIANS DON'T GIVE UP.

Erica takes her draw against a strong opponent with grace.

2nd Doubles: Faith and Vivian 3-6, 4-6 (L)

The second doubles was played by Faith and Vivian. This was another one of the close matches played between the rivals today. For the first set Eusoff was in lead with Faith’s powerful serves and Vivian’s surprise shots. However, towards the end Temasek catched up with the lead and went on to winning the first set. Our girls took the lead again in the second set where they were playing phenomenally from the start. Unfortunately, despite their honest efforts they lost the second set to Temasek with a final score of 4-6. We thank Faith and Vivian for putting such a good performance out there.

Faith winds up to return a fast ball.

3rd Singles: Elicia 6-2, 6-2 (L)

Last up is our 3rd singles where Elicia was up against a IFG player. Despite being new to the sport, Elicia managed to secure 4 games, 2 in each set. She had all the support from her team where they were cheering on every point she scored. Elicia’s slices were something to take note of today as they always caught her opponent off-guard, beginners luck? We don’t think so. Again, knowing her opponent Elicia still put out an amazing performance where she chased every ball to the best of her abilities.

Elicia in action, getting ready to return a strong backhand to the opponent.

1st Singles: Felicia 2-6, 6-7 (L)

1st Doubles: Shu Ling and Violet 4-6, 6-2, 3-6 (L)

2nd Singles: Erica 0-6, 0-6 (L)

2nd Doubles: Faith and Vivian 3-6, 4-6 (L)

3rd Singles: Elicia 6-2, 6-2 (L)

That sums it up for IHG 20/21 for the Tennis teams. Even though we lost the finals to Temasek the girls walked out the court with no regrets as they knew that they all did their best. In the end, when the captain called for three cheers for Temasek it was evident that despite the rivalry between the two halls we owe mutual respect towards each other. This loss is not something to frown about but to cherish on the grounds of a good and close fight. Thank you for joining us today and we hope to see you again next year for the TENNIS IHG.
