It’s go time for our Table Tennis girls as this preliminary round would determine whether they get to play for semi-finals! Our girls were in high spirits as they warmed up with the other halls and fellow teammates, ready to clinch their second win against
First Singles
As the very first player up, there was no doubting the nervousness Juen Lin was emanating, as she stepped up to face her opponent. However, it became clear right from the start that her opponent was clearly one that would be tough to beat, and despite her best efforts, she eventually loses the first set at 3-11. Despite the previous loss, after a quick prep talk by her teammates, Juen Lin continued to try her absolute best for her games, but a few outs and misses results in her loss for the second set, at 2-11. With the third set underway, all of us were cheering for Juen Lin and hoping for her to make a stunning comeback but it was just not to be, and while she had really great rallies and strong smashes as well, it just fell short and she sadly loses the third set at 8-11. But it really was a fantastic effort, as she never gave up despite being on the losing end, and even managed to win up to 8 games for the third set!

First Doubles
naTionAl tEaM pLayEr Amanda and Xin Yi kicked off our first doubles, with great team play that could make anyone jealous! It was a pretty intense match, with plenty of ties along the way from 2-2 to 3-3 to 5-5 then 7-7 (time to buy 4D?) before they unfortunately lost the first set at 10-12. Undeterred, but rather empowered by their close loss, the two started to play even harder, and won the second set at 11-3! Another intense close third set that the girls lost (at 9-11!) seemed to make them fight even harder for the fourth set, winning at 11-4. With 4 sets done and dusted, our girls seemed to now know their opponents, and began to take advantage of their weak spots, finally winning the last and final set at 11-4. Really really great job girls!

Second Singles
Our favourite twin Ashley, aka Smashley aka Annette’s twin (say real everyone who went for todays’ match, would you have recognised them if not for the different shirts?) was our second singles challenger. She was constantly smiling throughout the match, (a pleasant change from the usually nervous and stressed-out faces haha) and even as she lost the first set at 7-11. Ashley then displays her trademark smashes as best as she can, here and there, but her opponent was really pretty tough, and we end up losing the match instead, at 2-11. With just one more set to determine who would be the match winner, Ashley really did put in all her all, but just unfortunately misses out, and loses the third set at 3-11. However it was really a valiant effort on her part!

Second Doubles
Cutiepie Chloe and Superstar Sonia were up next, and they managed to start the game strong by winning the first point. With some pretty sik defences and serves, they managed to bring the first game up to 8-3. Another few more rounds of them just winning it, they manage to win the first set at 11-6. Both of them seemed to treat this round as a warm-up round and began to ruthlessly attack their opponent. With what seemed like a blink of an eye and they were up 6-2. But a few mistakes and it was a tie at 6-6. Not to be worried though, our girls managed to fight back even harder to gain back an advantage and eventually won the second set at 12-10. It was pretty smooth sailing from then on, as they easily take home the third set at 11-3, making the overall match score a tie.

Third Singles
Captain Jolyne had the big burden of winning the tiebreaker game, but she proved that that was no pressure to her as she easily SMASHES her opponent into oblivion with her fantastic slices, rallies and returns. Jolyne was not even breaking a sweat (or her smile) for the first set, winning it at 11-3. She continued her amazing talent, where barely a minute in, she was up 5-0, and then won the second set (again easy peasy) at 11-5. With just one more set to secure her victory, Jolyne started to play even harder, and with absolutely no mercy at all, ends off the final st at 11-1. What a beast!
Final Score- EH 3:2 RH
Despite their brilliant win and performance tonight against RH, it is with deep regret that our girls are still unable to advance to semi-finals. However, their efforts and training and hard work definitely did not go unnoticed, they really gave their all for all their matches, and for that, they are champions in our hearts.
