Ending off the day with a bang was guaranteed by our swimmers as they participated in the Mixed Freestyle Relay heats against Sheares and Temasek Hall! The final lineup for the day included our dancer Branda, swift Jared and our captains Shannon and Kee Juan. Even before the swimmers took their positions, the air was filled with their hunger to win. This match could be the very factor that brings them one leap closer to the overall championship!
Silence envelops the entire pool as swimmers took their respective spots and awaited for the horn. “BOOP!” We had Branda as the first swimmer who took a beautiful dive into the water! For the first few seconds, there was peace and quiet and it was hard to discern which swimmers were in the lead as they were all underwater. Then, chaos broke out. Branda demonstrated her powerful strokes and kicks, constantly lingering just slightly behind Temsak who was currently in the lead. She smoothly carried her part out till the end, ending with a crazy timing of around 30 seconds!
Poised in position, Jared leaps out like a frog, executing an incredible dive far out into the water. It was hard to understand what happened because from one moment we were still in second place but just blink and you would miss the glorious sight of Jared breaking through the surface and setting forth with his freestyle, at least a few heads away from Temasek Hall. The gap between himself and the other swimmers progressively widened, much to our excitement and thrill! There was a distinct body length gap by the time Jared reached the end, clocking in at an unbelievable 26 seconds!
Third in the race was Shannon (This girl yet again! She really does not take a break from swimming!) who took no chance in letting the huge lead slip from her hands. She whips her arms around with all her might, focusing only on her finishing line despite the intimidating sight of Temasek hall, whose strong opponent was starting to gain speed on her. The tense and restless atmosphere resumed when the swimmer from Temasek Hall caught up with Shannon nearing the end of her turn, posing yet another challenge to the Eusoff swimmers! Despite this, Shannon clocked in at an amazing 30 seconds!
The grand finale had arrived with Kee Juan as the last representative. He accomplished a smooth dive just a second after the swimmer representative from Temasek. When both of them emerged from the water’s surface, there was hardly a lead distance one had from the other. This race was going to be such a hard fought and fierce battle! They seemed almost like twins, passing by the first, second and third quarter markings at the exact same time, dishing out the same strokes and kicks. Today definitely set the day for close matches for it was also almost impossible to conclude the winner for this event. Almost. Apart from our faith in our captain, we were also able to observe that Kee Juan touched down just slightly before Temasek’s swimmer at a timing of yet another impressive 26 seconds, hence bringing back the win for the team!
Wow! What a thrilling end to the day! The swimmers deserve all that glory they had earned after months of practice! Here is to hoping for more wins on the final day! Rest well team, we are so proud of you!
