The atmosphere was tense and the pool at the University Sports Centre seemed hectic as it was milling with swimmers who were warming up for their Individual Breaststroke race. It was the same for our two swimmers representing Eusoff Hall, Kexin and Shannon. Kexin would be participating in the first wave while Shannon made her debut in the second wave. Even in their warmups, they were eager to go and we could see their determination to win it for Eusoff.
Kexin stood patiently and politely with her hands placed either behind or in front of herself as she waited for the match to begin. “BEEP!” As soon as the whistle sounded for the swimmers to take their positions, Kexin changed her demeanour and deftly adjusted her swim goggles and cap. Her power mode was on! With the sounding of the horn, she was off, allowing us to glimpse her stunning diving form before she disappeared into the waters. Both Kexin and her opponent started their dive at the same time so it was nerve wracking right from the start! However, Kexin rose to the surface earlier and dished out her breaststroke skills, trying to swim as fast as she could to break away from her opponent. Yet, as she was initially leading, she was also up against another fast swimmer, and hence was slowly caught up at the 25 metre mark. She fervently bobbed her head into and out of the water, taking quick, short breaths to avoid slowing herself down. In the end, she clocked in at a timing of 52.09 seconds, less than two seconds behind the swimmer from Temasek. Good swim Kexin!
Kexin was all smiles after her race, good job hehehe
While waiting for her own match, Shannon was sighted, looking very relaxed with no signs of jitters. By quoting Kexin, she sat down looking as if she were at a coffee shop enjoying kopi. She rose to the moment when the whistle blew, fixing her cap and goggles before stretching to release tension from her muscles. “Take your marks… BOOP!” Shannon flexes her graceful nosedive before emerging to find herself neck and neck with Temasek’s swimmer! What an exciting start to this race! Undeterred, she kept up her pace and both Eusoff and Temasek hall had their swimmers racing side by side until they were left with a quarter of the race left to clear. Shannon was able to forge ahead of her opponent and finish the last quarter of the race in first place! She achieved an astounding timing of 39.66 seconds, being the only swimmer in both waves to hit under 40 seconds! Nothing short of a remarkable performance by our swim captain!
entering the pool in such beautiful fashion, it is no wonder that our captain was the fastest swimmer!
This event was a blast to watch as it was a close match for both swimmers. We would never know how the race turned out till the very end! A great effort for both girls, and it was heartening to see Eusoff supporting them on the livestream despite being unable to support them in real life. Let us stay tuned for more epic matches to come!
