It was yet another day of exciting races displayed by the Eusoff Swim team!! For the next event, the strong lineup of Ethan, Kristie, Shannon and Yue Hong would show off their powerful breaststroke moves in the Mixed Breaststroke Relay heats against Sheares and Temasek Hall. We were already graced by their presence in the previous events so we would have a general idea of how this match would turn out. Eusoff for the win obviously!
The start of the race came out strong as Ethan produced a splendid leap into the pool, emerging from the surface after travelling underwater for almost a quarter of the race. His passion to win was presented through his rapid and swift arm motions, taking short quick breaths before going back under the water. Though he encountered a strong opponent from Sheares, he persevered and kept himself level with the swimmer. It was only the first leg of the race and it was already so intense, with neither party relenting to one another. Definitely a wake up call for a Saturday morning! Ethan clocked in at around 35 seconds.
Kristie was up next after Ethan, diving seconds earlier before the next swimmer of Sheares dove in. It was barely even a one second lead! With our hearts in our throats, we watched on and cheered for Kristie, hoping that she would be able to widen the narrowing distance. At the 25 metre mark, about halfway before the end of her turn, Kristie found herself swimming alongside Sheares’s swimmer! She had put up a good fight although her opponent was a tough one and managed to swim past her and claim the current first place lead. Kristie ended her turn with an estimated timing of 44 seconds.
Shannon certainly would never allow that! Following Kristie, Shannon gracefully dives into the pool but do not underestimate her for her strong kicks underwater allowed her to quickly overtake her opponent! In a span of five seconds, she had turned the tables in her favour! With Kee Juan at the side to help her keep her pacing, she was speeding down her lane with rhythm and ease. Unfortunately, just slightly after she had reached three quarters of the pool, the swimmer from Temasek Hall slowly crept up from behind and gained on her, reverting our position to second placing yet again. Shannon finished her race with a total of 39 seconds.
However, all was not lost for it was up to Yue Hong to tank the final leg of the race! It was a fierce battle that resulted in both swimmers from Eusoff and Temasek swimming neck and neck with each other. It was almost too hard to look at! Yue Hong fought his best against his opponent, straining every muscle he could to get ahead. Alas, Eusoff attained second place by just a hair, with Yue Hong touching down with a time of 35 seconds. We were behind Temasek by less than a second! It was an extremely good fight put up by our Eusoffians and such a joy to watch and support them! Stay tuned for the remaining few matches left in the next two days! Their swim journey is almost over and victory is near!
