Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one’s entire body to move through water. Breaststroke, free-style and backstroke are some of the most common strokes used in swimming which I’m sure many of us are aware of. For the Inter-Hall Games, swimming is mostly made up of relays - girls, guys and mixed gender, The relays are breaststroke, freestyle and a medley with each team consisting of 4 swimmers.

Leading the Eusoff Swim Team this year, we have Kairui as the male captain and Kristie as the female captain!

First up, we have our male captain Kairui! Kairui started swimming way back when he was 6-7 years old, which definitely makes him a veteran of the sport. When asked what made him want to take on the captain role, he humbly said he took the role as he just wanted to lead the team in the upcoming IHG. With an arsenal of hardworking swimmers this year, his goal for his team is very straightforward: beat TH.

During each training session, the team (guys and girls) is split into 2 groups with each group having different training sets. These sets mainly consist of warmups, drills, kicking and pulling sets, main sets, sprints and finally, a cool down. Intervals are usually done for swimmers to pace themselves and also to ensure consistency in their performances.

When asked what one good thing about the female team is, Kairui summed up his answer perfectly saying,”Honestly, we’re essentially one team so that’s the best thing”. Wow, what an amazing captain indeed. Ending off, he had these words of encouragement for his team: “You must do things you think you cannot do.”

Moving on, we have Kristie, this year’s female captain! Just like Kairui, Kristie started swimming at a tender age of 6 as a survival skill. Little did she know that this skill would develop into an interest for the sport. When asked about why she wanted to be captain, Kristie said that she wanted to step out of her comfort zone and take on new roles to contribute to Eusoff’s sport scene. When asked about goals for her team, she sincerely wants each and everyone to believe in themselves and be better versions of themselves after each training.

As both genders train together during trainings, Kristie commends the male team for inspiring them to swim faster during each training and also for being encouraging. This year, Kristie has listed two swimmers for us to keep a lookout for: Shannon, who is a freshie and Sarah who is a senior.

Ending off, Kristie mentioned that she loves bonding her team through hydration sessions but let's just hope she doesn’t make them drunk just before trainings or even the actual IHG. Her final words of encouragement are: “Try to push yourself for each training and eventually you will see the results. We are here every step of the way so feel free to reach out to us for anything!”

Make sure to catch these two exciting teams swim their hearts out during IHG! We wish them the very best in their pursuit for IHG glory.
