With their hearts pumping and adrenaline running high, our swimmers started warming up for IHG with some hardcore sets. Together with swim IHG was also the IHG official opening! WOW With a grand total of 12 swim events, expectations ran high and our swimmers readied themselves to give exciting and memorable performances. As usual, we started off being confused with the different colored swimsuits and goggle-clad faces but we eventually recognised that all Eusoff swimmers were in lane 6 AKA “the lane between the blue and yellow divider”.

Eusoff swim team getting pumped and motivated

The first event was 50m freestyle (M) heat 1 & 2 represented by Timothy and Saimun. The crowd excitedly cheered as both swimmers swam with all their might and hit their personal best finishing at 32sec and 29sec respectively!! The event was over so quickly we barely had time to react!

Next up, 50m freestyle (F) heat 1 & 2 represented by Krystal and Eusoff’s very own media director Jillian. The girls dove into the water beautifully and generated huge waves with their powerful strokes. They faced tough competition in their respective heats and emerged in second place. Eusoffians cheered loudly for the girls and their valiant efforts. It was truly amazing to watch how they fought hard and gave it their best efforts.

The third event was the 4x50m freestyle (M) relay with Joash, Sihern, Dean and our capt, Jared. With the sound of the horn, Joash dived in arms moving at light speed as he barely came up for more air. At the next lap, Sihern pushed and swam zoom zoom. Seeing his performance, one could not tell that he was nervous about competing for the first time just hours before. Our third and seasoned swimmer Dean dove in with confidence and splashed intense waves. Eusoff was currently in fourth place and fighting to close up the gap. Lastly, we all watched intently as our last swimmer Jared jumped in… Jared swam HARD and caught up so quickly!! FINALLY we finished in third place!!!! What an exhilarating performance from the boys!!!

Next up, 4x50m freestyle (F) relay with Jamie ong, Jamie tan, Branda and Ming Hui. Yes, swim has 2 Jamies who are both in swim and from A block. How special is that right ??? Their event was really special to watch too!! Jamie ong started off strong with an OBVIOUS lead in first place. Jamie tan The crowd was cheering as Eusoff remained strong in first place!! However, competitors from lane 2 started to catch up as Branda started her swim. It was a close fight when Ming hui jumped in… she caught up and stayed in the lead!!! Minghui fanboys started chanting while jumping on the sidelines…. Her powerful strokes started pulling distance… and she slammed her hands against the wall!! First place!!! Eusoff won this super intense relay!!! WOOO good job girls!

The fifth event was 4x50m breaststroke (mixed) relay starting with Chen how, our ex-capt Shannon, Jamie ong and our vice capt Ethan. Chen How dove in and showed everyone how he could swim as fast as he can run on land. With a good head start in 3rd place, Shannon took over and continued the battle. She pushed all the way to second place!!! Truly showing her prowess as our ex captain!! Next, Jamie dived in and could remain underwater for so long, other swimmers even commented on how fast she was. Amongst her powerful strokes, she won a head-to-head battle for first place in the last 10 meter stretch. The moment her hands touched the wall, Ethan DIVED in quickly a single motion. Man was swimming as fast as a dolphin… it was a head to head battle with Temasek… and finally Eusoff finished second!! Another exciting event completed with strong determination and efforts from our swimmers!!!

NOW it was time for some comedic relief with a good ol’ tradition – novelty swim. Meant as a fun race for beginners, this tradition finally resumed after years of COVID and all halls participated in full spirit. The swimmers representing Eusoff were hardworking beginners who have taken the effort to come down for training to learn more about improving swimming techniques. The team consisted of: Kexin, Adidti, Khai Tjie, Janice, Zonghan, Angie, Ben wong, Selina, Jakob, Marcus, Jessen, Qiern, Zheming and Moses. There is also a special mention to Ashwin, who has been consistently coming for training and unfortunately sprained his ankle… right on the day before competition day… While other halls decked out in fanciful floats, our novelty swimmers decided to opt for some good ol’ CANNONBALL!!! We had a fun time watching everyone splash around while some decked out in random unicorn floats and superhero costumes.

That was it for the first half of the swim IHG. Everyone took a 30 minute break before the second half of IHG, which would be continued in the next swim article. See you guys soon!!!
