It is our Squash boys’ debut for IHG and they look fired up. In a series of unfortunate events, our dearest Sean conveniently decided to forget his matric card and troll the entire team. Definitely a facepalm moment to remember. However, this led to our multi-talented handball captain Kenson to have some playing time! Up first to face their wrath is KE and boy would it be an exciting match.

Up first is our friendly superstar Jia Shen. With no wasted movement he demonstrates his technical skills of the highest level and completely outclasses his opponent. With perfect ball placement and footwork, he was superior in every aspect and his opponent looked helpless against his greatness. Almost as if Jia Shen was always 5 steps ahead of him and he was left to chase after his afterimages. He left the court victorious just as he had entered, dry and unbothered. The match was disgustingly one-sided as Jia Shen beat his opponent in what seemed to be a casual speed-run for him. Just another day in the office for him as he cleaned up really quickly in straight sets to win 3-0, giving EH our first win. What a lad.

EH 1-0 KE

Substituting for the biggest clown Sean(who forgot his matric card) is Kenson! He stepped on the court and dominated his opponent from the get-go. A vicious backhand down the line secured his first point and he did not let up. His beautiful strokes drew praise from the crowd as his opponent was clearly no match for him. His opponent tried his best to give him a hard time but to no avail as an insane diving backhand left his opponent helpless. It seemed like Kenson could do no wrong as his forehand, backhand proved too much for his opponent! I was almost convinced he could play without using his hands and still score. In yet another one-sided match, Kenson took his opponent to school and back with superior court craft and athleticism to win in a resounding 3-0. 2-0 to EH.

EH 2-0 KE

Up next, rocking the headband we have Elvis who is set to play what seems to be KE’s strongest player. Elvis had quite a rocky start but later stabilized and started to look like himself again. The first set saw many long drawn-out rallies with neither side giving any ground, it just looked like an intense couple dance session except these couples are just sweaty and gasping for air. Staying disciplined and focused, Elvis exploited his opponents minor mistakes and managed to take the first set 11-6. The opponent tried his best and forced a few mistakes from Elvis but nothing he couldn’t handle as he comfortably took the second set. He then went on to outpace his opponent in the third set scoring 9 in a row and eventually sealed the deal with yet another 3-0. It is now 3-0 to EH.

Next to grace the court is fan favourite Leonard. From the way he walks to the way he talks, everything about him is just troll and the crowd is loving it. LTA Leonard’s match was the closest and most exciting as both sides played with unrivaled intensity and passion. A rocky start by our lieutenant gives KE a 2 point lead right out the gate. He bounces back with his SAF core value: fighting spirit!!! The lead did not last for long as Leonard starts to get into a rhythm and eventually takes the first set. All smiles and jokes from the crowd, could a possible promotion to captain rank motivate our dear Leonard to play better? No harm trying as the second set starts exactly where the first left off. The two seem to be playing mind games with each other with their drop-shots and forcing mis-hits. A confident LTA Lee eventually emerges victorious in the second set probably due to his superior military tactics and mind games. The third set saw Leonard go off to a great start but a few mistakes towards the end let his opponent catch up and the last 2 mistakes by Leonard caused him to lose this set. Not to worry as he regains his composure and seals the match in the fourth set to win 3-1. Not one to doubt our CPT Leonard, I guess he just wanted to give his fans a longer show and wanted to delay his victory/promotion. 4-0 to EH.

EH 4-0 KE

Last we have Jerry who played an opponent nearly twice his size. Not one to be intimidated, he started strong going off to a 5-0 start in his first set. His opponent then quickly stablised and began to fire back with a couple of tough serves. Eventually, he took the set with finesse and leaves his opponent heartbroken by a close loss. The second set seemed like dejavu as the score gets close only towards the end. With impeccable ball placement, Jerry manages to leave the ball where it is almost impossible for his opponent to return it, taking the second set. He starts the third set with the exact same play. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” This man is definitely a subscriber of this saying as he repeats the same play over and over to be up 4-0. His opponent put up a good fight to make it a close fight but he loses his composure towards the end and ended up throwing his racquet in frustration! Jerry proceeds to out-finesse his opponent and an accidental smash into the bottom deck is the final nail in the coffin for KE. Jerry wins 11-9, 11-8, 11-7 in a 3-0 victory.
