Overall Score: 3-2 to EH
Our boys in yellow were looking for redemption after their previous loss against RH. This time their journey took them to their opponents in blue: Kent Ridge Hall.
1st set: Oscar, 3-0 to EH
Starting the boys off was our Badminton captain Oscar. With his golden hair, he certainly was dressed for the occasion. The first set ended in a 11-5 victory for Oscar as his KR opponent hit a few outs, allowing Oscar to gain the upperhand quickly. The second set saw Oscar bombarding his opponent with a series of volleys. Oscar won the set in 11-4. Continuing from the rhythm of the first 2 sets, Oscar was looking to end this game quickly and offered good counters to drops by his opponent. He eventually ended the set at 11-2.
Oscar looks a bit too happy to destroy his opponent, a bit BM leh. ehjk
2nd set: Kenson, 3-2 to KR
This matchup was probably the most intense match I’ve seen this season. In his opening set, Kenson was looking to pull away in terms of points as he scored the first 3 points. However, in retaliation, his KR counterpart evened the score scoring 3 consecutive points. Kenson then followed this up with another consecutive 3 points as he countered the many drops and drives his opponent put forth. This was repeated throughout the set until the boys played to a deuce. Eventually, the first set went to KR. The second set saw another close battle between the 2. Initially, KR pulled away with 5 points. But Kenson wasn’t going down without a fight and made up ground on his opponent. Unfortunately, the set ended 11-8 to KR. Riled up by his performance from the first 2 sets, Kenson was determined to claw back from the setback. This match was characterized by a number of good drops from both players. Kenson eventually outplayed his opponent and the set ended in 11-7. With tunnel vision, Kenson looked to beat his opponent yet again as he changed his shirt to his more preferred NUShandball shirt. This match saw Kenson’s opponent in blue misplay a few points awarding a few points to him. The set ended in a decisive 11-5. The two were now tied 2-2 and the pressure of the win was locked onto both of their shoulders. The final set was just as nail-biting as the previous sets. Initially KR looked to repeat the 2nd set, scoring the first 5 points while aiming to leave Kenson in the dust. However, Kenson responded well to this and clawed back to even the score. The scores continued to be even all the way till both parties scored 10 points, forcing a deuce. The set concluded in a 13-11 win for KR.
3rd set: Yongjie, 3-0 to KR
For this match up, Yongjie was unfortunately yet again tasked with going against one of KR’s more experienced squash players. The difference in experience was shown as KR made Yongjie run around the court to hit the ball back, slowly wearing him out.
4th set: Jerry, 3-0 to EH
Looking to boost the morale of the boys, Jerry was set on making quick work against his more inexperienced opponent. The first set was won swiftly at 11-1. Keeping a calm demeanor, Jerry headed into the 2nd set, with no doubt in his mind about the outcome. A few misplays here and there allowed for points to be awarded to KR but it didn’t stop Jerry from winning the set at 11-3. The last set saw a little bit more of an even play by KR as Jerry conceded 6 points before winning the game.
captain Jerry keeps KRalm as he demolishes KR (sry i am lame)
5th set: Sizheng, 3-0 to EH
Last but not least, we had Sizheng who looked like he had just come from class before the match. With the fate of our boys resting on his shoulders, Sizheng was determined to not let up and drop the bag. Sizheng made a strong campaign as he pulled away from the start, scoring 10 consecutive points. A call for stroke awarded 1 point to his opponent but it didn’t stop Sizheng from gaining the 11th point after. His next 2 sets followed the same plot as his first as he made quick work of his opponent, securing the win for the boys.
With this, our boys are heading into the semi finals, where they would face a team from outside of their bracket. We wish our boys all the best as they head into their next game soon.
good job boys!!!
