Overall score: Eusoff 5-0 Kent Ridge
Our second game for the squash girls started early yesterday morning. Even though most of Eusoff was probably still sleeping or haven't slept yet, the girls were ready to take on their opponents as they looked real energetic during their warmups. KR had apparently just won KE during their first match so the girls started off a little wary but still confident. And to no surprise, after 5 games (both tough ones and not so tough ones.. aha), our girls emerged victorious with a solid 5-0 win!
Game 1 (Fongling)
Fongling, our first winner of the day, won her first set with a clean 11-0. Then she won another set with another 11-0. And when you thought it couldn't get any better, she won her last 11-0 set. She really gave her opponent no chance to win as her opponent could barely return her serves. Good job on that solid W!
Love Machine Fongling and racquet sports queen Felicia (aka fish) having an intense warm-up session that probably took more energy than their actual matches...
Game 2 (Farah)
Farah was next in the lineup for the girls and she looked so POWERFULLL. I kid you not. Her serves and returns during this game were exquisite, and it was obvious that her opponent had much difficulty hitting the ball back accurately and could barely score points. This was another match that went on super fast due to our players’ competency, and it wasn't long before Farah brought us to the second victory of the day with 11-1, 11-1, 11-4!!
Game 3 (Felicia)
Felicia was yet another star player, as she played her KR opponents effortlessly. As you can tell from my commentary about the first two games, I barely have words to describe this phenomenal match as Felicia barely gave KR some points and took em all. The only difference was that I’m pretty sure the opponent made some returns, but the game still ended pretty quickly. AAAND She takes the third win for eusoff of the day, with scores of 11-2, 11-1, 11-1. AMAZINGGG
Game 4 (Lingyan)
On the 4th game, we finally have our MVP on the court. She fought hard during her game despite losing 7-11 in the first set, and bounced back during the next few sets. During the second set, she kept her head in the game and persevered. With her hard serves, smashes, and masterful short balls, she not only brought her opponent to her knees a few times but also won her first set with a 11-9! She lost the 3rd set of the game (7-11) but put in her utmost effort for the last 2 sets, where she won both and won her game! Of course, this couldn't be achieved without her well placed and skillful shots, while making her opponent slide and do splits (she split on the floor twice??) constantly. The intense game ended with scores of 11-8 and 11-7, proving why she deserves the MVP of the year award. At the end, she even mentioned that she had never even sweat this much during training before, so I guess we gotta give it to her opponent over from KR for giving lingyan such an intense workout this match!! Good job Lingyan for succeeding in this tough battle!
Eusoff MVP Ling Yan? Eusoff MVP Ling Yan.
Game 5 (Elicia)
Even though Elicia’s opponent looked strong during warmup, I was sure that Elicia would be stronger and boy was I right. She started off strong, but even though she easily got through the first 6 points of her first set, her opponent didnt let her win easily and their first set ended with 11-5. Second set was basically a game of catch up between Elicia and her opponent, as both of them were slowly but surely catching up to one another. But Elicia remained unfazed and ended the set with 11-7. During the third set, i could tell she was getting a little tired, and she ended up losing her first set with a 7-11. Of course, Elicia didnt give up and bounced back to victory, as she regained her strength to win her final set with 11-5 (in which both parties didnt even realise that the game ended and they were getting ready for the next serve. It was q funny HAHAHA). Elicia’s returns were impressive throughout the game and she was an absolute risk taker as she constantly aimed at making low returns, hindering her opponents from winning more points.
Overall, all the girls entered the game with a strong mindset and emerged victorious with a clean 5-0 win. Impressive!! Lets cheer them on for their upcoming matches this week!
