Final Score: 3-2 to Eusoff

It was the opening match for our Squash girls as they faced off against their counterparts from Raffles Hall. The campaign today was to obviously walk away with the win.

The first hurdle of these matches is the ambiguity of the opposing team’s line up. Unfortunately, our girls predicted wrongly when Raffles Hall reportedly used a random number generator to settle their line up, resulting in some very close fights in this game.

The 1st match saw Irene play against RH’s best player. Irene started her rally on a strong note by winning the 1st set almost decisively. However, it seemed her opponent from RH treated the first set. The second set saw a match played to a deuce which concluded at 12-10 to RH. The next 2 sets saw Irene’s RH opponent claw back from the loss she made in the first set, helping to up her team’s morale. The match ended in a 3-1 to RH. Despite the loss, our girls were not going down without a fight.

The next match saw year 3 sports superstar Celine Yeow aiming to make a comeback for the hall. Being no stranger to racket sports after playing many badminton IHGs, Celine was determined to get back at RH. Similar to Irene, Celine opened her game strongly by winning her first set; launching a series of strong hits overwhelming her opponent. Her experience in Badminton proved to be useful as she made certain shots that threw her opponent off guard. The 1st set finished 11-7 to Celine. The 2nd set however evidently showed RH wasn’t going down without a fight. A few misplays by Celine contributed to points being awarded to RH. The set ended in a tragic 9-11 to RH setting back our winning campaign a little. The 3rd set saw a fairly even fight as both ladies exchanged points up to the 7th point. However, Celine was determined to not give her opponent the upper hand and scored consecutive points leading to the winning of the 3rd set. Celine went on to repeat her feat in set 3 in set 4 beating her opponent 11-7.

Next up was our formidable freshies captain Yiyin!! I would type more for Yiyin but she was too good. She won all her sets decisively and made quick work of her opponent with only a few misplays( 11-2, 11-3, 11-3). WOWZA!

The girls were in a bit of a predicament in the next set as the gentle giant Gwen played against one of the more experienced RH players. Gwen aimed to mount a comeback in set 2 after the defeat in set 1, trying to even out the score. Set 2 ended in 11-8 to RH. However, experience was the deciding factor of this match and that theme would continue to set 3.

At this point, both our girls and RH were tied 2-2 in terms of games won. The stakes of this match were placed on Hazel’s shoulders.

Despite the pressure, Hazel did not buckle and played to her best. Her confident poise must have thrown her opponent off as she finished the 1st set in 11-3. The 2nd set saw Hazel let up a little as she hit a few outs and gave away a few points to her opponent, but she finished the set in 12-10. Not wanting to lose momentum, Hazel made quick work off her last set and completed her treble with a decisive 11-1.

Hazel with her intense game face on as she fights to win the last and decider game.

Our girls will next play against KE7 on the 15th of January. We wish them a speedy victory for this upcoming match. Stay tuned, don’t blink! You don’t wanna miss it!
