Final Score: 4-1 to EH
Fresh off their victory from RH, the girls were intent on continuing their winning ways this week.
1st game: Hazel, 3-0 to EH
Leading the girls off was Hazel, who was the last to play in the previous game. Someone should’ve kept Hazel for a later game because she swept her game leaving no room for her opponent to score. I would write more but this was legitimately the whole match. Hazel just racking up the points effortlessly.
2nd game: Celine, 3-0 to EH
Similar to last week’s configuration, Celine was second in line to face the opponent. Celine had conceded the first 2 points of the match with a couple of misplays. However as she corrected her strokes, there was no stopping Celine’s winning campaign. The first set ended in 11-6 to Celine. Apparently, Celine didn't know she won the first set and nearly continued for a 12th point. The next set consisted of Celine’s sick serves that secured most of her points with a few good cross courts. The set ended in 11-4. The final set saw Celine concede a total of 6 points before she won the match, teasing a possible comeback from KE. But it was nothing our year 3 superstar couldn’t handle.
3rd game: Gwen, 3-0 to EH
Looking for redemption from the previous match, Gwen was set on settling the outcome of the match with her game. Eyes on the prize! At first, it would look as though the KE player was on her way to avenging her teammates’ loss as the early game saw her lead Gwen by 4 points. However, Gwen was determined to not let KE have their way and proceeded to not concede any more points, winning the set in 11-5. The next set saw Gwen fumble a little with her technique as she tapped the ball a little too lightly similar to her style of Badminton. But after a quick refining of her racket handling, Gwen won the second set decisively in 11-7. Gwen proceeded to carry over her refined technique to the next set and finished the match decisively in 11-1.
although Gwen may have looked like she was playing badminton half the time, but yay to first squash W!!
4th game: Michelle, 0-3 to KE
The livestream was then in trouble of getting cut off as Michelle demanded to cut the livestream at her match. The netball legend’s knees were weak, arms heavy as she prepared for her Squash debut. Usually people sneak a smile at the audience before a match, but Michelle snuck a frown. Despite the first set ending quickly, Michelle managed to score 5 points against her opponent. The next set saw Michelle put up a greater fight as she scored 7 points. It wasn’t until her opponent caught up to her score that the set was decided. Score might have been better if Michelle had heard her teammates telling her to call for a stroke. But sadly, she just stared at us who were in the audience for a few seconds and then continued playing. I don’t know if she just chose to not make the call for a stroke or she genuinely did not see or hear her teammates. I truly hope it is the former, if not she might have to visit the doctor soon. Her 2nd set ended in 8-11. The third set was finished quickly in an 11-4 defeat. But honestly, it’s really props to Michelle for being brave enough to take on a sport she was completely new to and go up a more experienced player.
Michelle the netballer seems unfazed despite playing a new sport~
5th game: Yiyin, 3-0 to EH
Saving the best for last, we had Yiyin to bring the girls home. The first set was won decisively in 11-1 as Yiyin gave no room for her opponent to react. Building from the strong rhythm she established in the first set, Yiyin ended the 2nd set decisively by scoring 11 successive points finishing the set in 11-0. A couple of misplays and a call for stroke by her opponent in her third set prevented Yiyin from an almost flawless win but nevertheless she finished the set in 11-3.
With this victory, the girls have earned a place in the semi finals where it is still to be determined which hall they would face. The moment where our girls would have to face their toughest fight yet may be upon them. But, we still wish them godspeed and all the best!
