After the long Chinese New Year break, it was time for the Squash F team to play their finals against TH. Both teams have not lost a single game in this tournament so far. Just a brief recap, in the group stage, EH won both SH and KE with a score of 4-1 and 5-0 respectively. They faced RH in the semis and won 3-2.
To start off the finals, we have our captain Hazel. The game started off closely with each player scoring one after another till 3-3. That was all the points Hazel gave her opponent because Hazel had a good run of consecutive points and soon the score was already 11-3. That’s the first set to Eusoff. The second set was another strong display by Hazel as she breezed past her opponent 11-4. The third set ended with the same score as the 2nd, 11-4. Although the scores may show that it was one-sided, each point that Hazel scored was actually hard earned .The TH player didn’t let Hazel get any point easily. However, Hazel managed to come up on top most of the time. Good effort by both players. First match goes to Hazel and Eusoff! 3-0.
Captain Hazel claiming a landslide victory in the first match
The 2nd player is fan-favourite yiyin! (I think because she got the most fire reacts when I said she's the next player.) The set did not start in Yiyin's favour as she found herself down 5-1. But yiyin was able to refocus and get back into the game. From being down 5-1, she managed to come back to 5-5. The scores were close up till 8-8 but after that Yiyin took the lead and with the TH player hitting an out ball for the last point, we closed the set 11-8. The 2nd set was close as well, 6-6. Then EH took the lead . After the TH player hit the tin twice in a row, the score was up 9-6. In the end, yiyn won the set 11-6. The match score stands at 2-0 to Eusoff. In the 3rd set, smart plays by yiyin forced her opponent to make many mistakes. The set ends 11-3 to EH. With that, yiyin won the set 3-0. She also keeps her unbeaten streak by winning every single set she played this IHG. Amazing.
Our 3rd player was Irene, a favourite among the dancers in Eusoff. It was a rough start for Irene who fell behind and eventually lost the set 11-2. She started to gain momentum in the 2nd set, leading her opponent all the way. However, the opponent managed to catch up and Irene was unable to keep the lead. The 2nd set ends 11-9 to TH. The Th player played well in the 3rd set as well and won with the score 11-2. Good fight by irene but the TH player proved to be too strong.
The 4th player was Violet. In case you forgot, Violet came from 2 sets down in the previous game to win RH 3-2 and book our place in the finals. Will this be a repeat of what happened last week? It looked so, as Violet lost the first set 11-7. Her 2nd set was much better as she won it 11-3. Just like the previous match, her serves made it hard for her opponent to receive. The 3rd set had us on the edge of our chairs, or bench, or floor, whatever the supporters were sitting on. The scores were tight, 6-6. Ace serve from Violet, 7-6. With a good run of points ,she won the set 11-7. That's the 3rd set to EH and we lead 2-1. Only 1 more set away from becoming champions. The 4th set was intense as well. The score was tied till 5-5. Out ball by TH, 6-5. Ace serve by Violet, 7-5. Another ace, 8-5. Another ace, 9-5. Just 2 more points away from the title. Th pulled one back, 9-6. Violet scored the next, 10-6. Just one more point and of course, she wins the point, and the set, and the match and game for Eusoff. 11-6. EUSOFF HAVE THE GOLD MEDAL! Once again, Violet proved to be the vital player, coming from behind to secure the win for Eusoff.
In the final game, it was freshie Shiryee who took on TH. The first set was rough for shiryee, who lost with a score of 11-4. In the 2nd set, TH lead 9-1, but shiryee managed to bring it back to 9-8. Despite her injury, shiryee gave her all and went for every ball. She was close to coming back in the 2nd set. The 3rd set was hard as well, shiryee lost 11-2 to TH, Good effort by shiryee though. Hard to play with an injury but she still gave it her all and put up a good fight.
Congrats to the girls who emerged as champions at the end of their IHG season. Their hard work definitely paid off. Well deserved girls.
