It is the intensity. It is the adrenaline rush. It is the speed of the game. It is softball. True to its mantra, we look to the man that exemplifies that very sport in Eusoff Hall -Amos.

When asked about his experiences in Softball, he said that Softball was his first ever sport that he played competitively, teaching him how to be a proper sportsman by working hard during training and translating it during the game. He strives to be the best in what he does by honing his craft and constantly seeks to improve it. Ever since he had watched baseball on television and thought to himself that it looked cool to be swinging a bat, he took a leap of faith and never looked back. He started playing in Geylang Methodist (Secondary) School and has never regretted picking up the bat that would win him games and achieve victories in his competitive career.

To him, Softball is more than just a game that involves bats and balls. In his opinion, Softball is a really chill sport and only becomes serious when it needs to be. The banter and conversations that happen during training and games lightens the mood, making the sport enjoyable and exciting to play. His memorable event was that during his Year 1 softball finals against Raffles Hall, the odds were stacked against them as they had to play without their three national players. Somehow, the fringe players like him stepped up, played smart and were so on point that day to beat and eventually clinch the gold medal. It is inspiring how when an athlete is pushed out of his or her comfort zone or towards his or her limit does that person exceed expectations and perform well beyond what others expect. Amos has demonstrated this time and time again, which is well deserving to be the senior that everyone respects and loves.

Today, if you were to ask him what is necessary for any sportsman to do his best in training and games, he would tell you two words “strong character”. He would tell you to dig deep and find the inner self belief that one day you will improve and get to the standards your or your team has set out to do. IHG is coming soon, the preparation begins. The training is hard, but when you are called to step up and perform, you’ll see that the training and competitiveness brings out the best in not only you or him, but Eusoff Hall as a whole.

Hopefully everyone here can take a page from Amos’ notebook as we anticipate the amazing plays and performance that he brings to the table in the upcoming IHG and many competitions ahead of him.
