Final score: 16-1 to Eusoff
Spirits ran high amongst both teams, despite the burning hot afternoon sun that blazed across the pitch as both teams aspired to clinch yet another victory before their semi-finals. The game began with SH batting first, and an onslaught of excellent pitches managed to put an early end to SH’s first batting innings, with EH only giving away a single run. In response, our batters began smashing the ball far downfield, giving our runners plenty of time to make it back home. This included a beautiful strike from Bowie, that managed to send Ben and Ruowei, on 2nd and 3rd base respectively, and herself, back home. The innings were cut short by the maximum run cap of 7 runs, bringing the score to 7-1.
Our softballers spirit only became stronger in the second innings, where our second line boasted the brilliant pitches of Darren Sum and textbook fielding from Yusoff, Charmaine, and Sheena, who were able to hold Sheares to zero runs, in what was perhaps, our quickest fielding leg in the tournament so far, lasting just over 3 minutes. Hyped by their excellent fielding, once our batters of the second line entered the field, they began demolishing SH’s fielding defense, and managed to get yet another 7 runs in the bag, bringing the score up to 14-1.
The third and fourth innings were fielded equally brilliantly, with neither of the lines giving away a single run. As victory became imminent, our players started cheering louder, but this was not left unanswered as Sheares’ supporters encouraged their team equally hard. However, it was only a matter of time before our batters managed to drive a few beautiful hits downfield, and the game ended with a final score of 16-1.
This concludes the preliminary stage games of EH softball and gives our players an ample 5 days to rest and recover (especially Emma’s ankles) before having another chance to showcase their softball masterclass during their semi-finals next Saturday afternoon. Shoutout to convening for organizing this game, and Sheares for being such wonderful opponents that truly reminded us of what a competitive atmosphere should be. Well done again to our softballers!
