Final score: 27-0 to Eusoff
With the glow of the morning sun illuminating the wet and muddy field, our players stepped onto the pitch with their heads held high, ready to conquer today’s opponents. Despite having played their previous game in the scorching heat less than 18 hours ago, there was no trace of fatigue on any of the players’ faces.
The game began with KE batting first, and with a slew of amazing pitches from Kenson, KE’s batting reign was rather short lived and they had to walk away with 0 points. However, as our batters stepped into the box, they answered every good pitch with an equally stunning swing. This allowed our batters to reach the inning cap of 10 runs and move into the second innings with a score of 10-0 to Eusoff.
As our second line took to the field, the fantastic pitching from Justin and textbook fielding by our second line managed to hold off KE’s batters to a score of 0 despite their valiant efforts to find a chink in our armour. However, they did not back down without a fight as their impeccable fielding and pitching during this innings managed to strike out 2 of our players very early on, and another strikeout a few minutes later ended our innings short and we walked away with 7 points, bringing the score to 17-0.
The third inning was an exciting one to watch as Tien Yu’s wonderful pitching and the line’s fielding managed to hold KE to 0 points. As our batters stepped into the box, they began to rack points up in the scoreboard with a few wonderful hits and a number of balls flying out of the park. The inning ended with our batters walking away with 10 points, bringing the score to 27-0.
The fourth innings saw the return of our first line back onto the pitch, and Kenson’s pitch-perfect balls were the nail in the coffin. With 3 consecutive strike-outs, the end of KE’s batting regime also signified the end of the game, with a final score of 27-0.
In the post-match interview, captain Benjamin Khoo, who was not playing the game itself but was down early in the morning to lead his team through their warm-ups and accompanied them throughout the game, said that despite what the score might say, there are still some small things our team can work on and tiny errors that we can rectify. He also added that this was a good experience for the players as this game’s line-up consisted of players with relatively less experience playing competitive softball, and it was a good opportunity for them to have their first taste of the game with something on the line. Overall, he is satisfied with the team’s performance and only hopes to get better from here.
Shoutout to TM Jeyin and SMC logs again for taking time off to ensure the team was well hydrated, KE for being such great opponents, and the IHG organizing team for coordinating this event. See you guys during EH Softball’s next game against Raffles Hall on 6 Jan 10:30am.
