Final score: 12-11 to Temasek
Our softballers once again stepped onto Field 3, basking in the glory of the morning sun, ready to face possibly one of their toughest opponents. While TH, similar to us, have been unbeaten so far in this competition, our team was ready to break their streak as our first line took the field.
The first innings began with our first line led by captain Benjamin Khoo, featuring the likes of Taka, Kelly, and Sheryl, all experienced players in this tournament. They delivered a strong opening, managing to stack 5 runs onto the scoreboard, and effectively putting the pressure on TH to answer back. While TH’s line 1 delivered an equally strong performance, excellent fielding by our softballers managed to hold them off to 4 runs, giving us an early lead of 5-4 at the end of the first innings.
BENJAMIN KHOO W THE SMASH AND DASHHHHHH
Undeterred by the advantage we had, TH had stepped up their game into the second innings, and a demonstration of textbook fielding and pitching managed to leave our second line scoreless. However, our softballers never gave up and cheered their teammates on the field, occasionally interrupted by Taka’s coaching advice, and our fielders managed to hold TH off to 6 runs, bringing the total score to 10-5 to TH.
some sick fielding by Charmaine until her visor flew away..
As we moved into our last innings due to a lack of time, our batters delivered a strong performance and managed to get numerous brilliant hits in, effectively wreaking havoc amongst the TH fielders. However, they managed to stay composed and managed to hold us off at 6 runs, bringing the score to 11-10 to Eusoff, and we found ourselves in a do-or-die situation as we needed to get 3 outs without giving TH a single run to win the match. With perfect pitching and fielding from Justin and his line, 2 early strikeouts put a lot of pressure on TH, and our softballers became more hopeful for a brilliant comeback. However, TH’s batters managed to deliver, and as their batter managed to make it to second base just a fraction of a second before she was tagged out (while the other 2 runners made it back home), TH managed to emerge victorious with a score of 12-11.
While this might be our first loss this season, our team is more determined than ever to avenge themselves in the upcoming matches, and most importantly, walked away knowing what exactly went wrong and how to overcome these mistakes. Special mention, yet again, to convening for helping organize this match, and Temasek Hall for being such formidable opponents. Once again, well done and Jiayou to our softballers.
