Day 2 of the IHG season started on an overcast morning, perfect weather conditions for our Softballers to take the stage. After 3 convincing wins yesterday, morale was at an all time high as the players looked eager for the challenges that lay ahead of them.
EH 4-0 RH
Our team started fielding first and Capt Taka looked like he was just warming up as he and Tien teamed up to take the first batter down at first. LYLC Jowell then had his fun with 2 cheeky pitches followed by a good catch to take the second batter out on his own, yikes. A lil miscomm by the outfielders but all is well after Jowell and Tien take the next batter down with a combined effort at first.
Josh Lee back at it with that Good Eye syndrome and walked to second who later advanced to third after Veteran Naomi hit a solid single. Capt Taka then struck a sweet strike but it was met by a magnificent catch by RH’s pitcher, lad couldn’t believe he caught the SEA Games gold medalist canon shot and could be seen shrugging off the sting in his glove. After a series of good plays, Josh found his way home while Naomi and Tien made their way to third and first respectively. All Charmaine got was a high five at second and with that, she was out. Ning came late to the party but turned up the hit with a sizzling double as Tien advanced to third while Naomi raced home safely. Jowell then had a go with an amazing triple, buying sufficient time for Tien and Ning to reach home. Natasha’s sky ball was then caught, hard luck mate.
EH 7-0 RH
Capt Taka began the second inning with 2 rocket throws to Tien to take both the first 2 batters down at first in quick succession. Superstar freshie Tien then caught a pop fly to take the third batter down.
JJ secured first base after a solid hit and found his way to third after Hasya struck a good single. A BIG BOI, 9 PIECE SPICY MC NUGGETS hit by Josh Lee saw him make his way to second, while JJ strolled home. Veteran Naomi then made it to first as Josh advanced to third while Hasya found her way home safely. Capt Taka then had a well measured shot to first while Josh scored another run. Charmaine’s sky ball was unfortunately caught. Tien then sprinted to first but some good play by RH saw him and Capt Taka out.
EH 11-0 RH
Some saucy pitches from Jowell forced the first batter to strike out. Individual brilliance from Naomi saw the second batter out as she simply plucked his ball from the sky. Ning and Tien then took down the final batter, 3 up and 3 down. Air tight from our Softballers, once again reaffirming that defence is the best defence.
Ning had a sweet hit but it was unfortunately met with a good catch by RH. Jowell then smacked a lovely double. Natasha back at it with that Good Eye and took the scenic route to first as JJ followed suit soon after, allowing Jowell to stroll home. Hasya then had a decent hit and sacrificed herself by drawing attention to first which saw herself out but bought sufficient time for JJ to reach third as Natasha sprinted home. Some insane connection by football goalkeeper Josh Low as he made a home run while bringing JJ home. That was pretty unexpected based off the reactions from the bench but nevertheless, points are points baby. Tough luck for Veteran Naomi as she was out at first.
EH 13-0 RH
Capt Taka then made a couple of subs, most notably Sports D Amos as pitcher which caused a few eyebrows to be raised. Would he be able to handle the pressure or return to horsing around? With a couple of accurate pitches and decent plays, the Capt’s gamble paid off as Amos and Capt Taka saw one of the batters taken down. A great catch by CHarmaine then saw the next one out at third. Finally, Taka and Charmaine teamed up at third to take the final batter down. Air tight ziplock lock n lock goldilocks plays from our Softballers, yet again proving defence to be what? Yes, the best defence.
Si Heng started the party going by making it to first. A solid merciless, ice cold triple by Charmaine then allowed Si Heng to sprint home as he yelled something on his way through, +5 sprint speed. I couldn’t hear what he yelled but might’ve been “the party don’t start till I walk in”. Guess we’ll never know. LYLC Bala then made it to first as Charmaine safely secured another run. Unfortunate for LYLC Bala as he found himself out at second as Steph made it to first. Sports D did not disappoint the spectators, putting the entertainment in sports entertainment as his sky ball is caught.
Another flawless victory from the team in yellow as their hot winning streak continued. With the game eventually ending with the score 13-0 in favour of Eusoff, our team’s morale was at an all time high.
After a short water break, warm up for the next game commenced. Rounding up his troops, Capt Taka then proceeded to give his teammates a truly inspirational, eye watering, tears streaming down your face speech which they would definitely remember for the rest of their lives kind. We were ready for the final game of the round robin stage.
EH 6-2 KR
Ken Jun kicked things off to an excellent start and found his way to first. D nice with the case of Good Eye walked to first, advancing Ken Jun to second. A nice double from Wee Teck saw D nice make it to third as Ken Jun made it home for the first run of the game. Shermaine then continued the fine batting form as she made it to first, WT to third as D nice ran home. Diva that whipped out his cricket skills with an unconventional swing which proved effective as he made it to first as WT ran home. The onslaught continued as Han Jing found her way to first, Shermaine to third but Diva was out at second. Yusof then made his way to first after solid contact as Shermaine sprinted home. Hard luck followed as Natasha’s sky ball was met by a good catch. BOOM by Capt Taka as he hit an immaculate double, buying enough time for Han Jing and Yusof to run home. Shuyi had a solid hit but it was met with a superb catch by KR.
Turning over to defenc e, Ken Jun showed his skills with a solid pop fly catch. Some solid play by KR’s star player saw 2 runs make it through. Diva then added a dab of sauce as he and Shermaine took another down at first. Then out of the blue, Shuyi came in with a spectacular catch for the style points to take the final one down.
EH 8-2 KR
Good Eye by IVP Sprinter Cheng Tat saw him take a lovely stroll to second. Tough luck for Steph followed next as her ball was caught in mid air. OUTTA NOWHERE MR KEN JUN whips out a pulchritudinous, magnificent home run as he brings Cheng Tat home too. D nice then made it to first but WT’s hit was then caught. Shortly after, Diva found himself out at first.
Capta Taka with yet another laser guided throw to Shermaine to first to take the first batter down. WT then showed up with a crazy no look mid air grab which looked like something pulled out of an anime. Insane in the membrane. Capt Taka back at it with his consistent performance to take the final one down.
EH 10-2 KR
Han Jing with a decent hit but was unfortunately out at first. Yusof then made his way to first and was advanced to second as Natasha found her way to first. Capt Taka with another solid double allowed Yusof to sprint home safely. Shuyi unluckily was out at first but bought enough time for Natasha to run home as Taka made it to third. Cheng Tat then struck out.
Tactical mind games by Capt Taka saw Sports D Amos as the next pitcher. With some delectable pitches, we all learnt to expect the unexpected from our Sports D. Amos forced a batter to strike out after some flavourful pitches and then teamed up with Shermaine to take the following batter out at first. Amos was stylin with his classy plays as he and Shermaine took the last one down at first again. HOT DANG!
EH 13-3 KR
Steph with some solid contact but it is met by a nice catch. Ken Jun found his way to first and advanced to second after D nice very nice single. Good contact by WT with a double as D nice sprinted to third as Ken Jun found his way home safely. Shermaine was out at first but she buys enough time for D nice to make it home. In the meantime, WT takes a big hit in the leg but nobody can drag him down. He makes it home alive but he’s barely breathing. Diva is then out at first.
Amos truly steals the limelight yet again with a negative example of how to pitch which frankly leaves me speechless. He quickly recovered well and teams up with Diva to take one out at second base. Natasha and Diva then take another down at second. One KR player sneaks home but Sports D said enough is enough and strikes the final one out.
Another good game and exquisite performance by our Softballers saw them take the cake home 13-3. Thanks for reading this far folks and hope you’ve enjoyed this lil update. Looking forward to the last day tomorrow and hopefully our team will be able to retain their title of Champions.
