Shortly after the ending of the female road relay, the male teams gradually made their way down to Raffles Hall. Excitement, adrenaline, nerves, all these feelings could be felt in the face of tough competition. Nevertheless, our boys were pumped and ready to perform their best. Luke, Darren, Cavan, Ray, Khai Tjie and Ivan were representing Eusoff, with their main competitors being Raffles and Temasek, who were the favorites in this event with formidable runners. Despite not having a few key runners that night due to injuries, everyone looked optimistic as they stepped up to rep the black and yellow. For our first runner, our very own Mr Sports D Luke would be starting us off. 9.30pm on the dot, CLAP, and the first runners of the 6 halls sprinted off into the distance.

With the loud cheers of his fellow Eusoffians, Luke pushed ahead to the finish line through wit and will, handing it over to Darren to continue the race. Filled with the desire to redeem himself from the previous year (if you know you know), Darren dashed off as soon as Luke clapped his hand to complete the changeover of runners. As the basketball captain, he is used to be constantly running with all the suicide runs they have to do. He brought the same energy into this road relay, closing the distance between him and the halls ahead with every step he took.

Next runner for Eusoff would be Cavan! With his positive mindset, he was able to have a smooth run while keeping himself focused the whole way. While climbing up the CLB slope, supporters were cheering him on, but Cavan’s stern expression and eyes remained fixed onto what lay ahead of him, fully focused on the race. His determination eventually led to him overtaking Sheares and placing us one step ahead, as he sprints back to the finish line to pass it onto another up and coming freshie Ray. Ray, who started running a lot in the army, has also established himself as a concrete runner in this road relay team. Seeing his huge muscles and strong mentality, it looks like he would be a threat to anyone racing against him. He had a solid run, clocking about the same time as Darren and Cavan at about 6 minutes and 40 seconds, as they managed to pull the team back into the race for a chance on the podium.

Khai Tjie stepped up as the fifth runner. He clocked the second fastest time during the time trials this year (after Ivan of course), and it was all to the fact that he has been attending the most trainings and trains the hardest throughout the season. His long strides and strong legs carried him up the CLB slope with ease. Similar to the girl’s team, we had been playing the chasing game from the start, and currently down to the last runner, none other than our captain Ivan. This was his chance to overtake someone and move up to at least fourth place. Steady and efficient steps brought him closer and closer to Kent Ridge, as he was literally chasing him down during the steep climb up CLB slope. Then finally halfway up the slope, Ivan’s speed and stamina outlasted his competitor and managed to overtake him, as he sprinted the rest of the way downhill all the way to the finish line! Although it wasn’t the outcome they were looking for, they were proud of the hard work they put in all season for that night despite the hiccups that occurred during the race, and to finish fourth with a time of 40 minutes 33 seconds!
