The sky was clear and bright with no signs of rain that had cancelled the initial Road Relay match. After all the long hard months training for this one day, it really felt that the great weather tonight was a sign for success. With a strong team consisting of our A block sweetie Jamie, silent but heavy lifter Megan, multi-talented Jaslyn, best actress in Eusoff and some say Singapore Captain Yi Juan and secret weapon Cloey, the girls were all ready to smash this race!
Starting off strong was Jamie, who managed to give us a slight lead over her opponents right from the start! She continued to maintain her lead throughout, ultimately giving us a lead of close to 35 seconds from her RH opponent! She finished her run at the end, with a 7 minutes and 39 seconds timing. With such a strong start, she definitely helped to bolster the spirit and energy of the remaining RR girls as well! With her last parting words of thanking her supporters after her run, it’s no wonder that she’s a sweetie that everyone adores!
Next up was Megan, who despite her lack of words, proved to be a strong asset to the team. At one point, she was running even faster than a bus! (granted the bus just stopped but still?? What a superhuman) She kept what seemed to be a pretty easy lead over her opponents, eventually landing us about a 28 seconds headstart over RH, and an overall run time of 8 minutes and 34 seconds.
Receiving the baton next was Jaslyn, our multi-talented choir head, receiver of “best couple in D5, her emotions are the best” according to our DP heads, and of course, a fantastic runner to boot. Maintaining a good lead over the opponents as well, she managed to clear the course in 8 minutes and 28 seconds, providing us with a lead time of about 23 seconds! She clearly went full out and gave it her all, parting off with a flop to the ground after her run. (Rest well Jaslyn<3)
After Jaslyn, we then had Captain Yi Juan stepping up to the plate, ready to unleash her prowess. Reaching the Clb area in roughly 6 minutes and 23 seconds, I was thoroughly impressed and honestly thought she would help extend our lead time to maybe 30 seconds. BUT imagine the anxiety and fear when she ultimately ended her run at 8 minutes and 3 seconds, with only about a 1.5 second head start with the RH opponent!
With my heart starting to pump like crazy and feeling crazy anxious, I soon realised there was really nothing to worry about as our secret weapon Cloey was finally unleashed and I swear to god she literally zipped through the course like a lightning bolt and nearly immediately gave us a 2 metre lead within a span of a few seconds. Reaching the CLB slope at a record-breaking time of about 5 minutes and 25 seconds tonight at least, she easily cruised through the finishing line, with a total running time of 7 minutes and 2 seconds. WHAT. A. BEAST.
With an overall time of 40 minutes (yes on the dot), Eusoff was ultimately third place for Road Relay, with TH leading at 39 minutes 3 seconds, then KR with 39 minutes 44 seconds, followed by RH at fourth place with 40 minutes 47 seconds, SH next with 44 minutes 36 seconds, then KE at 47 minutes 18 seconds and last but not least, PGP with 53 minutes 54 seconds.
Unfortunately, despite being the third fastest hall, I have to announce with a heavy heart, that the female RR team was regrettably disqualified, due to the breaking of the rule of having an outsider pacing the girls with a vehicle.
No matter the decision and outcome, at the end of the day, the RR girls truly gave it their all, and really were shining stars racing through the skies. They will forever and always remain winners in our hearts <3
You girls still made Eusoff proud, so chins up and let’s do even better next year! 💛
