It was a cool and quiet night as the netballers made their way to USC sports hall, prepared to give their best in their match against RH. After their strong showing in the first round, with a dominating victory over KE7, the Eusoff netballers were ready to bring the same level of energy into this game. They arrived early and started their warmups as per usual and I noticed 2 new faces, Becky and Yiting.
Shortly after, the whistle for the first quarter went off and the match was underway. EH had a strong showing in the first quarter, taking their time to make their passes. They were firm and accurate with them and the ball was perpetually on RH’s side of the court. Becky scored the first goal of the night, setting the pace for many more to come in this match. Rish showed her experience as she was blocking and intercepting ball after ball, leaving RH with no room to breathe. Despite the fast pace of the game, I managed to catch the smiling faces of some of the netballers, showing how much they really enjoyed themselves while playing the sport. With Eusoff’s relentless attacks, we climbed to a healthy 17-0 in the first quarter.
Our freshie, Rachel Whale, who made many good passes and decisions as a centre in the game.
The second quarter began and it was immediately apparent that RH’s better players were subbed in (from my POV at least). RH had more coordination and they were holding their own against us. However, the girls were unfazed and upped their ante as well. RH scored their first goal of the night in the 2nd quarter, bringing the score to 18-1 to Eusoff. The RH fans were seen cheering for their friends, but also taunting Carris as she’s shooting. Unfazed, our QUEEN shut them up by scoring goal after goal, using her height to her advantage to snatch rebounds. Michelle, our LYLC, also had a strong showing. She blocked and intercepted a good number of passes, flexing her experience as a veteran netball player and styling on RH. 2nd quarter came to a close with the score 27-3 to Eusoff.
One of the many shots taken by Eusoff that night.
The 3rd and 4th quarter were similar to the previous ones. Every time EH had the ball and it went into the hands of our shooters, I was certain that we would score. Carris bagged goals upon goals, with her team cheering for her and the rest of the netballers on the sidelines. At this point, RH was getting desperate, lobbing long passes which were easily intercepted by EH, shutting them down completely. After the 3rd quarter, it was 44-5 for EH and the game drew to a close with a final score of 51-9 to Eusoff! Great job netballers!
