There was a palpable tension in the air as the netball girls from TH and EH warmed up on both sides of the court, executing routine drills and passes while waiting for the match to begin. It has finally come down to the semi-finals of this year’s IHG Netball season and the winner of this match would proceed to the finals, so there was a lot riding on the results of today. Supporters from both halls lined the stands as well as surrounded the court, all waiting eagerly for the match to start.
FIRST QUARTER 6-5 TO EH
The first quarter started out with a bang, with Goal Attack (GA) Faith quickly drawing first blood after managing to move within killing distance. Li Ann then made a sick effort and pummeled the ball out of her opponents’ hands, stopping TH dead in their tracks. The ball found itself back in Faith’s capable hands and she slotted another in, making it 2-0 to EH. EH started possession once again and it was Bryna’s turn to put her name on the scoresheet, scoring another point for EH. TH proved to be formidable opponents though, and fought back harshly, capitalizing on each mistake and turning them into points. Both teams were very evenly matched, matching each other point by point, with the first quarter ending with EH narrowly in the lead.
Sharp shooter Faith executing a shot. Such poise!
SECOND QUARTER 12-11 TO EH
The second quarter started with Bryna coming back from the break with a newly purchased sniper rifle, allowing her to slot one in from an insane distance. Super-reflex Angie then cashed in on her opponent’s air ball, snatching it from the air and passing it to Bryna, just in a matter of seconds, and allowing her to score again. TH was forever hot on our heels, returning our goals with an equal number of goals on their own. Amazing defensive efforts on both sides and the score became tied at 9-9. Angie and Faith then executed a series of lightning-fast passes, not even stopping to think before passing the ball to one another! The TH opponents were left in the dust, allowing Faith to score another point with ease. The second quarter ended 12-11 with EH maintaining a narrow lead.
THIRD QUARTER 18-13 TO EH
The third quarter started with Angie somehow acquiring mind-reading abilities, allowing her to jump the correct direction and intercept the ball. Her sick interception lead to Faith scoring another point! As the match started to get heated up, there was an incident and a TH player had to be subbed out due to an injury. With her safely resting outside the court, the match continued in earnest. Bryna lobbed in another ball from a huge distance, widening EH’s lead over TH. Seemingly on fire, Bryna scored 3 more long-range shots in a row, leading some to think that maybe she was using some sort of projectile motion formula to guide her shots into the hoop. TH tried to regain their wits, but they were stopped at every avenue, with Belle and Nat constantly stopping their advances.
Multi-talented Belle attempting a block!
LAST QUARTER 24-18 TO EH
The last quarter started with captain Nat mind-reading her opponent, intercepting a pass, allowing Faith to score a point. Another time-out was called due to another injury on the TH side, with a sub coming on, allowing the game to continue. EH kept up the good defensive effort, with Belle and Li Ann man-marking every single person possible. Bryna then made a godly 3-pointer equivalent shot, possibly even catching the eyes of some basketball players. TH was still looking to make a comeback and started becoming relentless with their offence but Angie then proceeds to pummel a ball out of the court, and we eventually won the game 24-18!
Kudos to the Netball girls, who are through to the finals! This is testament to the hard work that they have put in throughout the semester. Let’s give all our support to them when they play their final game!
