“Even if you win the medal, it’ll turn to dust. It’s the process, not the end point”- wise words from this year’s netball captain. But don’t let that catch you off guard, even though she is all about working hard, Caitlin is not someone new to winning.

Although the more oblivious may believe netball is just basketball without the dribbling, the amount of focus and self-control truly puts this sport on another level. Each team has seven players, and while most sports usually allow players to roam along the court freely, netball players play to their strengths and are only able to traverse certain zones depending on their position. Players are also not allowed to take steps once they have received the ball, and thus usually try to land on both legs so they can choose one to pivot with. Despite the need for individual talents who excel at their role, teamwork is still surely the most important aspect of this game.

Leading the team to sure victory this year is Caitlin Lim, who is so good at the sport that she was made captain despite rolling her ankle immediately after being subbed on during IHG last year. Having played the sport since Sec 1, the Ex-YJC (now Yishun-Innova JC…. toh…..) captain uses her years of experience to plan her team’s trainings. They usually start out with a warm up, followed by dynamics, team drills, and court drills, ending in a game.

Caitlin means business when she steps on the court.

Although the high-intensity trainings are tough, Caitlin’s ability to instill a sense of belonging in the team motivates each and every player keeps spirits high and motivates them to do their best. She also credits their team manager, Yi Chen, for helping lift the mood of the team. “He’s really funny and very aunty, so it’s easy to get along with him cos he doesn’t make things awkward at all! Thanks a lot Yi Chen!”

When asked what she looks for in her players, Caitlin highlights two main traits that she believes separates a good player from a great player- responsibility and grit, which she hopes all her players can internalize and display during both trainings and games.

Off the court, Caitlin is a relaxed and studious person, who loves to Netflix and chill between her study breaks. The PFM student is also an all rounder who is not only playing 4 other sports for IHG this year, but also loves to go overseas and make travel vlogs in her free time. Despite this amazing persona, she exudes humility and constantly mentions how much her team drives her to do better- “Thanks for bearing with me guys! Coolios!!!”

Caitlin is shooting for gold for her team this IHG season.

With all that in mind, let’s support the lovable Caitlin and her team throughout this year’s IHG final’s as they strive to be IHG champions for the fourth year in a row! Let’s get it Netballers!
