It’s time for the annual Inter-Block Games, where the five different blocks in Eusoff battle it out to see who’s the most athletic and sporty! We've decided to widen our horizons this year to include e-sports as well, which should come as good news to our fellow couch potatoes with hidden talents. It is your time to shine!!

First event of the night was Table Tennis! These are the teams and lineups for each block:

A Block

A1: Divakar, Faith, Vivian, Javier

A2: Jun Jie, Chong Jin, Violet, Shuling

B Block

B1: Nikki, Teng Kuan, Yue Ting, Michelle

B2: Jie Rui, Wesley, Gwen, Celine

C Block

C1: Avina, Lingyan, Vimuth, Hung

C2: Hong Yi, Nicklaus, Brienna, Shy

D Block

D1: JLow, Alicia, Laychun, Aditi

D2: Jerald, Wei Lynn, Laychun, Aditi

E Block

E1: Heng Kai, Carlin, Yu Ju, Sonia

E2: Joash, Shiob, Sze Han, Ze Ning

Game 1: A1 vs C1

In this match, we have Divakar vs Hung, Faith vs Avina and Bobby & Vivian vs Lingyan & Vimuth in the doubles match. We kick things off intensely with the battle of the block heads! Avina was off to an early lead leading 7-1, and after making just one more mistake, she took the set 11-2! The second set saw Faith put up a good fight but in the end Avina prevailed! 1-0 to C1! In the other singles match, Divakar was just stomping his opponent winning 11-5, 11-6. 1-1 now! The doubles match also saw the pair from A1 victorious with them winning 11-4, 11-9. Kudos to the C1 doubles pair for putting up a good fight in the second set! A1 wins!

Game 2: A2 vs B2

In this match, we have Wesley vs Jun Jie, Shuling vs Celine and CJ & Violet vs Gwen & Jie Rui in the doubles match. Things were not looking good for Wesley as he was dying against JJ during the warmups. This proved to be true as JJ was merciless during the match, winning 11-2 in the first set. Wesley put up a better fight in the second set but eventually went down 11-6. Shuling vs Celine wasn’t caught on tape so I don’t really know what happened but Shuling won! 1-1 now! The highlight of this matchup was the doubles game. It was such an even matchup, deucing at 10-10 in the second set! With the set score tied at 1-1, Violet showed a bit of her anger to CJ which literally woke him up as they dominated the final set and A Block wins!

Violet and CJ take the set with an interesting teamwork strategy.

Game 3: B1 vs E2

In this match, we have Shoib vs Nikki, Szehan vs Michelle and Joash & Ze Ning vs Teng Kuan & Yue Ting in the doubles match. If E2 doesn’t win this, I really don’t know what to say cos this block is literally stacked with table tennis players…

The table tennis people really gave chance as they either used their left hand to play or changed to another grip when playing. However, it still proved to be no match as all 3 games were won easily by E Block but good effort to the players from B Block!

Game 4: C2 vs D2

In this match, we have Laychun vs Nicklaus, Aditi vs Shy and Jerald & Weilynn vs Hong Yi & Brienna in the doubles match. C2 stacked with Hong Yi and Klaus but these are the two chokers of IHG table tennis so I’m not sure if it’ll even be an advantage for C Block.

We start off with Laychun vs Klaus, with Klaus winning 11-6 and 11-0. Seriously no sportsmanship by Klaus as didn't even give his opponent 1 point in the second set. Next up we have an interesting doubles match. First set was 11-8 to the C Block pair but the next set saw the LYLC pair of D Block taking the set as our dear table tennis captain choked again (not surprised)! Finally the doubles match went to C Block as they won the last set 11-8. In the female singles, it was a rather intense matchup. Donning on her mask and slippers, Aditi comfortably takes the first set 11-8. In the second set, we see a deuce at 10-10 with both players putting up a good fight, and eventually Shy comes up on top winning 15-13! In the final set, Aditi is now serious as she took off her mask! She made a comeback from 5-7, winning 11-9 overall. The overall score was 2-1 to C Block!

Hong Yi and Brienna face the LYLCs of E Block in an exciting match.

Game 5: D1 vs E1

In this match, we have Laychun vs Hengkai, Alicia vs Yu Ju and JLow & Aditi vs Carlin & Sonia in the doubles match. In the male singles, we saw Hengkai using his phone as his bat winning his opponent comically. In the female singles, Alicia was dam serious and I could see the fire in her eyes but sadly she lost to her opponent. The highlight of the match was the doubles game. Initially, I thought that the winner of the match was clear and boy was I right as JLow and Aditi smacked their experienced opponents. (ok maybe Carlin and Sonia lost because they were using left hand and trolling) The overall score was 2-1 to E Block!

After the thrilling matches of Table Tennis, the next event was Floorball!

From casuals to tryhards, we have a wide array of players and personalities in this covid stricken IBG event. Curious socially distanced supporters were peering into the function hall, eager to support their block mates in this quest to obtain the IBG championship.

Game 1 ( C1 vs A1, Final Score 5 -4 , C1 wins)

As expected, C block were tryhards and were already intensively warming up prior to the start of the event and their game. While the team from A1 casually waltzed in just as they were about to begin the game, at that point they had not even picked out their own floorball sticks. The game format was as follows, there were 3 minutes quarters where the boys and girls teams alternated in play, with the girls starting us off. The A1 girls stuck with the “Guan Yin” defence for the first quarter, where all three girls literally just body blocked the goal. The best offence is a great defence I once heard. The C1 girls were confused as their desperate attempts to break through this iron wall were met with nothing but smirks and laughter from Vivian. Just when C1 least expected it, BOOM, a court long shot from the defence team, A block goes wild! Before the first quarter ended the “Guan Yin” formation was breached and the A1 girls decided to abandon the idea, leaving the score to 1 - 1 for the first quarter. The boys quarter that followed was a rough one Yi Chen the fierce warrior that seemed to miss alot, Divakar the scoring machine, Bryan Beh a massive unit who athleticism was impressive for a man of his stature it was truly a testosterone filled quarter. A block soon transitioned from a team with a solid defence to a more aggressive playstyle, but their defence was caught lacking and C block took full advantage of it, winning the game with a final score of 5-4.

The A1-C1 game was an intense one, with celebratory moments on both sides.

Game 2 (E1 vs D1, Final Score 6-3, E1 wins)

This match highlighted the disparity in skills between the team. On the girls team, we had Jovanna from E1 to watch out for. Jovanna was great on D and even put in the ball a few times, surely she is a freak of nature. Sticks were flying everywhere this game as the battle for the ball raged on between the girls. Suddenly a rogue ball struck yingying in the head, to which she insisted she was fine and wanted to play on, what a warrior. On the boys team, we had Matthew and Joash to watch out for. They were extremely excited to play with the ball, Matthew getting pushed against his will to wall, both strong burly men panting heavily as Joash sticks it into the goal to bring the score to 2-0 for E block! With iconic moments such as Nikki choking and Matthew shifting the shot higher than my CAP, we came to a final score of 3-6 with E block taking the win.

Game 3 (B1 vs E2, Final Score 9-7, B1 wins)

The B1 team was truly full of extreme tryhards, Wesley the returning champion of the IBG floorball series, it was his time to shine again. This game was filled with tactical conversations, ball handles and a general clown fiesta. It was an intense first quarter where the girls were neck and neck, tied with each team scoring 1 goal. Pei Xuan stepped up to the plate and maneuvered the ball around the opponent’s goal, to get it in from behind. A narrow shot which E2 never had a chance of blocking. E block however did get complacent and even missed a completely open goal once. The boy’s quarters were full of hype, with Ikhsan making his professional IBG debut. A classic moment that will go down in the books was when Ikhsan dazzled the opponents with his soccer handles. He passed the ball off, as if in a trance, E2 had no idea what hit them as the ball whizzed past them into the back of the net. This was arguably the most intense match of the night, someone even commenting that this was more intense than an IHG game. E2 was relentless in their efforts to catch up to B1 but nonetheless B1 was just too strong, taking home a strong victory with a solid score of 9 to 7.

With experienced floorballers on both teams, the E2-B1 game was one many did not want to miss.

Game 4(C2 vs D2, Final Score 4-6, D2 wins)

Girl power is stronger than boy power and this match exists to show it. The girls in D2 are contemplating visiting the TCM after how hard they had to carry this game. Before the clock reached a minute the girls from D2 had already scored 2 goals and I had trouble commentating and keeping up with all that action. Eventually the boy’s quarter started and D block was up 3 to nothing. Unfortunately for D block, C2 boys were stacked and they equalised in no time with no answer from the D2 boys, who were just celebrating the fact that they managed to keep the score down so the girls could take over. Leave it to the girls from D2 to bring it back, scoring once again but the C2 girls brought their A game as well and managed to fight off the relentless attacks. The fight ended with a close score of 6-4 in D block’s favour.

Game 5(A2 vs B2, Final Score 5-3, A2 wins)

With this game, B2 were the favourites to win , with a star studded lineup no one expected them to lose this contest. On the other side, for the boys team we had a trio from handball, Kenson, Taka and Bryan. These multi-talented boys were making their debut on the floorball scene and it would be an understatement to say that they did not disappoint. The girls from B2 being veterans at this sport had supreme communication and placement on the court, knowing exactly where to stand to pull off flashy combo plays. The boys from B2 had synergy like we had not seen for that night, with taka going for fast breaks, kenson with bursts of speed and aggression and Bryan being a guardian angel of the goal. They really brought it back for A block and eventually managed to clinch the win with a final score of 3-5.

With that, the exciting matches for Floorball were over, and it was time for the newest item on the market, the first esport game of Mariokart! Despite being an Esport, it definitely didn't lack the competitiveness of those played on fields.

GAMES: 1. C1-A1 124:103 (C1)

2. B2-A2 159:99 (B2)

3. B1-E2 153:90 (B1)

4. D2-C2 125:102 (D2)

5. D1-E1 140:106 (D1)

C1-A1 124:103 (C1)

First up we have C1 vs A1. Like most other matches, this was quite competitive with a lot of banana slips and mushroom plants. At first, A1 had the lead with both Joelle and Ange being on fire. But it didn't take Clae and Agatha much time to adjust to the tracks and take back their leads. Fun fact is that they all were playing with yoshi’s and you could hear the whole DH shout “Black yoshi”, “Green yoshi”... and on and on. It was an exciting match where Clae screamed the most. Well good job C1 !!

B2-A2 159:99 (B2)

Next up is B2 v A2 where B2 proved their skills by winning with a big lead. Stefan and Renzo from B2 were on fire and didn't leave much space for Anne and Javier. That’s not to say that Anne and Javier didn’t have their moments of smooth driving and easy leads. But as they say, this game is not only about the skills but also about luck. Despite the score being a bit off, each match was exciting to watch and A2 gave their best fight till the end.

B1-E2 153:90 (B1)

Moving on to B block yet again destroying another block with a big lead. Cedric and Dylan took the lead from the start with absolutely no mercy and kept their position till the end. Gues Jin Song and Kang Wei didn't see this coming their way today. Although, it must be said that they did put a great fight down there and were competitive till the end. I guess it's time to install a Ninetendo in E block lounge for our players to practice eh?

D2-C2 125:102 (D2)

Next up is D2 vs C2 which was a very close fight. Charis and Dylan were staring at the screen so hard that they forgot to blink a couple of times. Sherwin and Ryan were no different where their heads were tilting towards the direction of the tracks. With a few strategic obstacle placements and some moments of smooth effortless driving D2 managed to win the game. However, they do admit that C2 was not an easy opponent to win. We applaud them for their dedication to the sport.

D1-E1 140:106 (D1)

Last up is D1 vs E1 which was very close at the start but D1 managed to take a significant big lead towards the end of the game. Jeremy and Kee Juan were consistent throughout all the races. Vanilla and Adele were no easy opponents to beat as each time D1 thought they were on the lead E1 would come back right back to the top positions. Like other matches this match involved lots of screaming, shouting and jumping off the chairs.

Despite being an Esport Mario Kart was effective in portraying the competitive nature of Eusoffians. There were social distancing measures in place and all the players adhered to it while having fun and shouting in their own zones. It was fun to watch teams taking lead due to split second differences. The atmosphere was energetic and filled with joy. We hope to see them behind the wheels next year!

The end of Mario Kart also marked the end of a rousing and exciting day of IBG. We can’t wait to see what other moves and antics Eusoffians can bring us for the next two days of IBG!

🏅OVERALL PLACING:🏅
