The guys’ handball semi-finals against Temasek Hall was delayed for an hour due to the heavy rain as the sun was setting at 7pm. When the rain finally cleared, the SRC courts were left flooded. The handball players from both Eusoff and Temasek went to work drying the courts with rolling squeegees. There was still the periodic drizzle, and it seemed like the match was never going to start.
Point after point, our boys did not give up.
However, the game finally began at 8pm. Temasek started the throw and attempted at goal but Eusoff’s dependable keeper, Yong Sheng, stuck a foot out to save it. Possession changes hands and the teams exchange shots. For the first 5 minutes, the teams played slow, trying to get a sensing of each other. Then, Temasek scores the first goal to put them ahead, but Chester quickly equalises on the turnover. Temasek scores another two but Eusoff brings one back. Thus began a close first half, with the score difference never exceeding 2. Players from both teams showed peak athleticism, displaying fancy footwork and deadly accurate shots. When the halftime whistle was blown, the score was 13-12, with Eusoff in the lead.
The second half followed a similar trend – both teams returning goal for goal, shot for shot, while displaying impressive feats of athleticism. It was like watching the final battle between Naruto and Sasuke. However, as the clock ran down, ticking closer and closer to full time, Temasek pulled ahead and maintained a 2 point lead. 16 – 18… 17 – 18… 17 – 19… Eusoff was playing catch up.
18 – 21. Temasek just got a 3 point lead on Eusoff for the first time in the game. However, our boys in yellow were not done. Despite the time on the clock running out, they continued running and attacking with all their strength. The effort paid off with a few goals for Eusoff. 20 -21. It seemed like a comeback was possible. I’m sure everyone in the supporters’ stand had their butts clenched in suspense. Alas, Temasek scored another goal while Eusoff was unable to equalise before the full time whistle was blown. 20 - 22.
Good fight boys!
Whilst this IHG season is over for the handball guys, they definitely put up a fight that demonstrated the Eusoffian spirit. We will move onwards and come back next season stronger. Jiayou Eusoff!
