With the end of the month, came the end of the road (for now) for our Handball-hunks as they played the finals against our carpark 15 neighbours, Temasek Hall (TH)! The court was filled with Eusoffians to the point that many fans had to stand at the edge of the adjacent Handball court! With their warm-up complete, our Handball-hunks were ready to face their opponents.

The match started with TH on the attack. The players ran past our defence to score but the ball landed straight into veteran goalkeeper, Jun Yu’s arms. BIG BOI Marcus soon tried to score but missed. Thankfully, Bala caught the rebound and scored! Sick! Immediately after this goal, TH tightened their defence, always keeping an extra eye out on Bala. The boys of TH were no less and immediately returned with a score of their own. This one player from TH kept intercepting EH’s ball, running ahead with no resistance and scoring. Aaron tried to retaliate with a goal but unfortunately, a TH player blocked the shot with his face. Looking at Aaron’s arms, this reporter did not want to imagine how painful that must’ve been.

To catch up with Temasek, our Handball-Hunks kept passing the ball amongst themselves, luring TH’s defence away from the wingmen, Josh and Marcus, who would later go on to score within seconds of receiving the ball! TH soon caught on and started some sick plays of their own, soon bringing the score to 6-11 in favour of TH. After the match against RH, the crowd knew that our Handball-hunks are masters of comebacks. Within five minutes (actually timed it!), goals by Captain Tomo, Canon Arms Marcus Chew and Southpaw Senior Josh brought us back on par with Temasek! Unfortunately, during these five minutes, giant Darren got injured as soon as he was subbed in.

Eusoff’s aggressive earned TH a penalty which they were quick to convert. Not to be left behind, Ex-Captain Jon practically flew as he scored. TH later leveled it with a goal! Seconds later, Aaron scored! You would’ve missed it if you blinked (which this reporter did hehe). Seetow soon scored the last goal before half-time, bringing us up 16-15. He hadn’t been able to play in the last few matches due to his injury. It was great to have him back!

The second half of the match opened with Jon racing past TH’s defence to score. A few minutes later, Aaron faked a past as he scored. TH soon intercepted EH’s ball, only to have it intercepted by EH seconds later. Captain Tomo faked a shot and passed the ball to Josh who scored! The ball soon reached BIG BOI CANNON ARMS Marcus Chew who swooped in and scored. It was so impressive that even the TH supporters were baffled. TH stayed at par with EH the whole time, with the score not differing for more than two minutes. There seemed to be a battle of chants between the Eusoff and Temasek supporters, each trying to out-support the other.

TH soon called for a time-out and when they returned, were on a roll, soon getting a huge lead of 6 points. After their comeback against RH, our handball-hunks knew that anything was possible and did their best. Unfortunately, everytime Eusoff scored, so did Temasek, keeping the point difference. Towards the end of the game, Temasek’s keeper had gotten pretty sick. At one point, he saved the ball with his…crotch. Now that’s what I call cock-block! Even though they were losing, our handball-hunks had great sportsmanship! Josh (#97), helped TH’s injured player #97 stand and walk off the court. It was pretty heart-warming. The referee soon blew his whistle, marking the end of the match.

Temasek may have won with a score of 35-29 but our Handball-hunks have won our hearts. Losing is a part of life. It gets rough, but it’s always better to learn from your mistakes than to be discouraged by it. It is easier said than done, but that’s life. There’s no doubt that our Handball-hunks will learn from their mistakes and come back stronger next year! Jiayou! We’re proud of you boys!
