Another sunny day, another W for Eusoff Ultimate. Today’s match saw them face off against King Edward VII in their second prelims match, ending with a solid 5-0 sweep to earn them a spot in the semi-finals.
Line 1: Keng Han, Jacob, Yiyin, Ryan (7-0, W)
Starting off strong, line 1 scored within the first minute, off an interception from Yiyin leading to a change in possession and an immediate score. This was merely their warmup, as they proceeded to score another easy point within the next minute, giving them a 2-0 lead early on. In perhaps one of the most highlight-reel-worthy plays of the entire match, Ryan pulled off a Callahan, where he intercepted the disc in the opponent's end zone to score a point. KE7 simply had no chance to score throughout the match as line 1 continued to keep the pressure up, scoring points in quick succession to end the match with a final score of 7-0.
Line 2: Joel, Nat, Amanda, Xintian (7-0, W)
On to line 2, Joel’s solid defence denied KE7’s attempt to score, and the turnover led to a score by Eusoff, followed by another quickfire point within the next minute with Amanda chasing down the disc into the endzone, leaving her defender in the dust. Don’t underestimate her short(er) legs, she will smoke you on the field before you even realise it. Line 2 kept the pace up throughout their match, leaving their opponents struggling to keep up. On the rare occasions KE7 made it near to the endzone, line 2’s impenetrable defence disabled any of their attempts to score, leading to another 7-0 victory.
Line 3: Oscar, Joel, Jan, Bryan (5-2, W)
Maintaining possession throughout the first few minutes of the match, line 3 managed to move the disc to the endzone and score 2 points in quick succession to put them in the lead. However, KE7 was undeterred and fought back hard to earn them their first point of the day – a point that saw their entire team rushing onto the field to celebrate. This was indeed a hard-earned point for KE7, with Oscar giving his all to deny them the attempt by trying to jump across and block the disc with his body. All good though, Oscar got his revenge soon after with a solid interception, smacking the disc down to the ground. A hammer throw by Bryan sent the disc straight into the endzone, with the disc coming straight into contact with Oscar’s chest and bouncing right out his grasp, but he managed to overcome the initial fumble to secure another point. Strong defence by line 3 kept them in the lead throughout the rest of the match, ending the match with a score of 5-2.
once again, the dashing blonde proves himself as he sprints to catch the disc at the finish line!
Line 4: Isaac, Linus, Sulynn, Brienna (7-0, W)
A solid long throw by Linus earned line 4 their first point merely minutes into the match, with Isaac catching the disc in the endzone with ease. KE7 put up a strong defence throughout, attempting countless layouts in a bid to intercept the disc but they were no match for our Eusoff ulti players, who cruised to a comfortable 4-0 lead even before halftime. A nifty catch from a low pass by Sulynn turned into another point as she sent the disc straight to Brienna in the endzone. Managing to maintain most of the possession after a decisive interception by Isaac, line 4 managed to score two more points to bring Eusoff the third 7-0 win of the day.
Line 5: Ruoyin, Randall, Kevyn, Mingsheng (6-0, W)
Line 5 took to the field to finish what their teammates started, committing to making the coveted 5-0 sweep a reality. Intuitive defence by Randall gave Eusoff possession of the disc, and Ruoyin chased the disc into the endzone to secure the first point. Giving KE7 no chance to maintain possession, line 5 brought the disc straight from one end to the other, scoring yet another point within minutes. Finishing off strong, line 5 simply outplayed their opponents in both defence and offence, with countless interceptions that looked almost effortless, beating their opponents to the disc and racking up points after points. A last-minute score by Randall ended the match with a score of 6-0, and an overall 5-0 win.
Having breezed through both their prelim matches, Eusoff Ultimate is on a roll and ready for action in their semi-finals tomorrow as they fight for their place in the finals. With two victories under their belt and hungry for more, be sure to support them on their journey to clinch the gold medal!
