The second game of the season got off to a rather slow start as the scheduled match faced a delay. Coming off a victory against Sheares, our ladies laced up their boot straps and eased right into play. The bright pops of our iconic yellow jersey illuminated the sea of blue. This match was the match that stood between us and the semi-finals. All we needed was to draw against the Kent Ridge wolves to top the group. And boy oh boy, were we in for a 20-minute burst of heart stopping action.

The first line was led by our dearest captain, Clae and was joined by Celine, Lily and Nikki. A line that gleams with years of experience. A fierce contest for the ball ensued as the KR wolves intruded into our half as they established themselves dangerously close to the post. Fret not for our eagled eyed ladies held down the fort and successfully fended them off with their unyielding resolve – there was no real opportunity for the wolves to take a shot at the post. Special mentions to Clae and Celine for their superb attacks, Lily for her phenomenal chest balls and Nikki for her timely saves.

The fight for the ball was decidedly a tighter one in the second match-up. The KR wolves were most certainly making us work for it as they relentlessly marked their opponents. Representing the second line of Eunited was Avina, Alicia, Elis and Jules. At the end of the first half, the ball made contact with Elis’ arm and a free kick was awarded to the opponent. Our ladies assumed their position in the impenetrable EUnited wall and the goal was unsuccessful. Once again, special mentions to Avina for her well-timed saves, Alicia for her ferocity, Elis for her command of the ball and Jules for her dynamic strikes.

both Elis and KR#10 CHARGED towards the ball with ferocity

The KR wolves definitely upped their ante in the last set. Multiple close calls and powerful shots at the goal were made by both sides. But ultimately, the ball rolls out of the playing area, and the referee calls for full-time. A nail biting end to an intense match-up of impeccable talent. A nil-nil draw against the Kent Ridge Wolves may not have been the desired outcome, but there is no doubt that this game would propel our girls to greater heights. A battle for a spot in the semi-finals against a worthy opponent – what more could we ask for?

The match was a demonstration of our fortitude and unwavering resolution and one thing’s for sure, it was a showing of our defensive brilliance. If that doesn’t send our opponents quaking in their boots, prepare to be steamrolled by EHunited’s ladies. Here’s a piece of advice from our lady boss, Serena Williams, “Overpower. Overtake. Overcome”. Let’s get it ladies!

Our girls will advance into the semi-finals, where they will face off against King Edward Hall VII. Tune in to @eusoff_smc on the 20th of January to witness some football greatness. Stay updated with our real-time match commentary @ihgfootball on Telegram.
