Our Basketball (M) team opened their season today against Sheares Hall.
From the get go, the Sheares players were eager to prove that they could contend with our boys in yellow. A couple of made shots saw Sheares take an early 12-4 lead, but this was short-lived. A string of solid defense and driving layups brought the game within two points before Ian sunk a pair of free throws to tie the game up.
At that point, the momentum was completely with Eusoff. Make after make kept the Eusoff lead growing. The score at the end of the third quarter was 35-28 to Eusoff, but they weren’t done there. Embodying the ‘excellence’ in Eusoff’s motto, the boys were chastised by their coach for ill-disciplined defending, and this lit a fire within them in the fourth quarter. A fantastic defensive performance coupled with efficient offense led to Eusoff outscoring Sheares 18-9 to finish the game 53-37.

All said and done, the thing that really shone in today’s victory was the superior fitness of the guys’ team. For those that aren’t aware, running suicides is a given every training, and as pointed out by their coach at a notable timeout team talk, it is for a reason. The Sheares players may have started out strong with some individual plays, but as fatigue set in they visibly slowed and couldn’t match the intensity of our players who just kept hustling.

Special mentions go to:
Jun Jie, who had a fantastic game today. Hustle was the name of his game. He tormented his opponents with dogged defense and was always the leading man on the fast breaks, scoring five of them.
Chester, who initially struggled in the overloaded paint (the lack of calls didn’t help) but switched up his play and shot superbly from midrange. In a notable three-minute stretch, he made three of the same mid-range shot and all Sheares could do was call a timeout to stop the man.
Chuan Yao, who played with fantastic speed and aggression. He may not have been the biggest player on the court but he sure as hell played like it. He led the team in steals and had some nice buckets along the way.
The guys will face off against Temasek this coming Friday. Be sure to come down and give them your fullest support!
