Our basketball girls had their IHG debut yesterday against KE7, eager to prove their status of reigning IHG Basketball (F) champions, and boy did they show us what’s up.
Captain Jin Wen took no time to sink the first bucket for the girls in yellow and Vera quickly took over the game going coast to coast and scoring point after point. The girls quickly amassed what was to be an insurmountable lead with Georgia and Jin Wen draining three pointers after three pointers. The girls proved to be too much for their opponents and held them to a score of 15-0 when they were already 5 minutes into the game. Despite a low scoring second quarter, stellar offence complemented by superb defence had the girls ahead in the first half with a scoreline of 28-6 to Eusoff.
Captain Jin Wen was on fire early, scoring buckets after buckets.
With the beginning of the third quarter, our basketball girls ran the court with renewed razor-sharp focus and the ball movement flowed true. Splash Sisters Jin Wen & Georgia out there in the Eusoff yellow lookin like our very own Golden Gate Warriors raining threes on KE7 right at the get-go. Superb team effort by the girls giving their opponents unrelenting pressure, forcing turnovers after turnovers and it was looking really ugly for KE7 with Hwee Ching bullying her way into the paint. It was smooth sailing through the half until Tam went down with a leg injury and was carried off the court in a true display of teamwork by the girls 🙂 Hopefully she’s alright!
At this point although the game was going to end, our girls showed absolutely no mercy and were out for blood in the fourth quarter. The girls were out here showing some real classy play with some good ‘ol pick and roll action between Jin Wen and Hwee Ching and that means EZ buckets. Super sub Jess came on the court and just robbed KE7 blind with two steals in quick succession. It may be late in the fourth in a blowout game but the basketball girls stayed disciplined throughout and respected their opponents by hustling hard for every ball and never laxed their defence – truly the sign of a solid af team.
Final score: EH 53-9 KE
Good job girls! Catch their next game against Sheares on 5th Feb 8.30pm at USC! You DEFINITELY do not want to miss our favourite girls in yellow!
