On Thursday night, I asked our captain whether the game against Sheares would be a close one. It was music to my ears when she confidently said “nope” as I was rushing to go back for dinner and I was not disappointed.

First singles Queenie: Our player, Queen Queenie Tay had been training and competing for several years, while her opponent was a relative newcomer to the sport. As the match began, it quickly became clear that Queenie was the superior player. She had excellent footwork and a powerful serve that kept Sheares on the defensive throughout the match. Sheares struggled to keep up with Queenie quick and precise shots, and was often forced to hit the shuttlecock out of bounds. Despite Sheares’ best efforts, Queenie dominated the match from start to finish. She easily won the first set 21-10 and the second set 21-5, completely outplaying Sheares’ in every aspect of the game. Sheares’ lack of experience and skill were evident in the match, as she made a number of unforced errors and was unable to put up much of a fight against Queenie’s superior play. Queenie’s powerful shots and steady play were simply too much for Sheares’ to handle and she was able to finish the match with a convincing victory. The match was not a close one, with Queenie winning easily and showing her superiority throughout the match.

Queen Queenie.

First doubles Huilin and Ashlyn: It was evident that Sheares players were far less experienced than ours. Many times they were even confused on where to stand and serve. It was like watching two timid cats fighting against two ferocious lions. With non-existent rallies and consistent unforced errors from Sheares be it serving into the net, hitting the shuttlecock out all the way to Fong Seng and plenty of misjudgement regarding if the shuttlecock was in. Coupled that with Huilin and Ashlyn ruthless aggression. Everytime they somehow managed to get the shuttle over, they would give them a swift and painless death by smashing the shuttlecock. It did not take long before they ended the game with a score of 21-5, 21-5. No really, it did not take long, the game ended in like 15 minutes.

Second singles Celine: Our Madam President herself, the LYLC rocking that #1 Jersey. The match began with a strong display of skill from both players, as they traded powerful shots back and forth across the court. Celine’s strong net play and quick footwork kept Sheares on the defensive, while Sheares’ powerful smashes and precise drop shots kept Celine on her toes. The first set was a slightly more closely contested battle, with both players showing their skill and determination. In the end, Celine came out on top, winning the first set 21-14. The second set was more one-sided, with Sheares struggling to keep up with Celine’s fast-paced play. Celine’s strong serve and accurate shots put Sheares’ under pressure, and Sheares was unable to match her intensity. Celine took the second set 21-6.

Our Eusoff #1 will show you how it's done!

Second doubles: Tammy and Naomi. They started the match with a high five to each other. I think the resonance from the high five must have confused the opponent as she immediately served into the net, giving our duo an easy point. Tammy and Naomi went on a 9-0 run. I think they saw Sheares on the verge of tears so they served a ball out and smashed a shuttle out as charity points. 9-2. Sheares audience cheered for the players to not give up. This put some glimmer of hope in Sheares’ duo. That glimmer of hope faded faster than Eusoffians rushing down on Saturday morning to get scrambled eggs. Naomi and Tammy proceeded to score the next 11 points in 5 minutes, ending the first set 21-2, a new record. The second set was a similar story with perhaps less aggression from our duo as they probably felt bad. There were some opportunities for our duo to smash the shuttle to their side but they chose not perhaps because when Naomi actually did smash one… it hit her opponent’s face. Yikes… she cannot go club this weekend liao. The second set ended with a score of 21-9.

Last singles: Elis. Chen How, the badminton F TM was updating me the score as I was focusing on the second doubles game and the speed at which he was just updating me 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 was astonishing. Elis took the first set with little to no sweat with a score of 21-2 where the two points was due to service error. She continued this aggression and her match was probably the fastest out of the five as she took the second set 21-4.

Elis looking like she posed for the photo, showing how calm she was on court!

With this win, the badminton F team have advanced to the semis as the first seat in their groups. Congratulations to the badminton F team!!!
