It was a Saturday afternoon, where people would normally be resting in the comfort of their homes. But here I am, on a Saturday afternoon, watching girls play badminton… Nice. Fortunately for me, it was an extremely entertaining match which made my weekend sacrifice worth it. Today, our badminton girls faced a rather challenging fight from Kent Ridge Hall. With their own fair share of decent players, KR gave our girls a very good game.

Starting off, we have our last year captain Celine in the 1st singles. Facing KR’s best shuttler, Celine took awhile to warm herself up, giving KR a 11-5 lead at the mid-game interval. However, keeping her composure, she fights back to reach a one point deficit of 18-19. Unfortunately, Celine was unable to keep her momentum and lost the first game 18-21. Celine started the second set strong, going toe to toe with her opponent, reaching the mid-game interval with a 1 point deficit of 10-11. However, Celine’s opponent proved why she was the best shuttler in KR and took the game 21-14.

1st singles: 18-21, 14-21 (L/L)

Happening concurrently, we have Aderes and Gwen for our 1st doubles. Being of IVP caliber, these 2 are one of the best Eusoff has to offer. Aderes and Gwen simply outclassed the opponent, rendering their trickery useless as they took the 1st game comfortably at 21-8. Flick serves, body feints, paused shots, Aderes and Gwen were unfazed by any of the tricks their opponents tried to pull off. They easily took the 2nd game 21-7.

1st doubles: 21-8, 21-7 (W/W)

G for Gwen, G for GAME FACE ON (y so srs pls)

Next up, we have our all-rounded athlete, Elis. As you would’ve known from the senior series (go read if you haven’t!), our multi-talented Elis has been a key member of the badminton team. Starting off the 2nd singles, Elis marches forward to interval with a 11-4 lead. Wearing her smart watch to the game, Elis probably wanted to clock a few extra steps during the game. However, it seems like the one clocking a ridiculously large number of steps is her opponent, as Elis forces her opponent around the court, while seemingly standing right in the middle of the court. She takes the 1st game with ease at 21-7. It seems like even the KR girls know the absolute beast Elis is as they cheered loudly for every single point their teammate managed to earn. Ultimately, the number of points KR managed to take off Elis in the 2nd game could be counted with 1 hand as she takes the 2nd game 21-4.

2nd singles: 21-7, 21-4 (W/W)

Elis w that pantene commercial?

Following up, we have our 2nd doubles, led by Huilin and Naomi. If you read my commentary during the match, you would know that I’m not a big fan of eyelash extensions during sports. Huilin and Naomi brought their absolute A game, moving into the interval with a 11-5 lead. Throughout the game, Huilin and Naomi made it so difficult for their opponents that they kept squealing and giggling on the court. One of their opponents even wore eyelash extensions to the match (yes I could see them from level 3). Not sure if they were here to play IHG or shop at Orchard road. So many more comments I would’ve loved to make, but alas, our pubes head Rish silenced me. Huilin and Naomi takes the 1st game 21-7. I guess the eyelash extensions did serve their purpose as I noticed the umpire constantly looking at the KR girls. However, our girls are no simp and smashes their way through the 2nd game, taking it 21-1.

2nd doubles: 21-7, 21-1 (W/W)

For our last singles, our freshie series star Queenie takes the centre stage. Going up against one of KR’s best players, Queenie started off strong, going head to head with her opponent as both sides refused to let the lead open up. She moves into the interval with a 1 point deficit of 10-11. KR managed to find their rhythm and started to pull the gap apart. Queenie, not giving up, fights on and slowly claws back. However, her opponent managed to steal the 1st game 15-21. In the 2nd game, KR starts off strong with a large lead of 5-11 at the interval. As things were starting to look bad, Queenie rises from the dead and all of a sudden, a 2 point deficit shines a ray of hope. However, KR played excellent badminton, sealing the 2nd game 14-21.
